The Fury The darkness filled Mr. And Mrs. Fletcher's room, Mr. Fletcher was fast asleep but Mrs Fletcher was not. Mrs Fletcher hadn't slept al night; she was very scared and frightened of what Mr. Fletchers reaction will be when she tells him that she killed his rabbits. The hours were going very slowly for Mrs Fletcher as she lay on her bed looking at the bright full moon that lit her blonde hair and made the moon reflect in her eyes. Mrs Fletcher was thinking of what to say and how to act when Mr. Fletcher woke up. The sun was up and shone through the gap in the curtains and on to Mr. Fletcher's face which woke him up. Fletcher with a menacing smile. Mr. Fletcher strolled out of the shop and headed back to his home thinking how to confront his wife. He opened the front door and saw the crack at the top. "I'm so glad you came back" Said Mrs. Fletcher in a very distressed voice. "Here I got you something" Mr. Fletcher handed over the teapot very slowly thinking what he is about to do to Mrs. Fletcher. "This is what I fancied for a long time, thank you so much". Mr. Fletcher grabbed the teapot brutally and hurled it in front of Mrs. Fletcher's feet. The teapot shattered everywhere. Mrs Fletcher screamed and jumped. "See how it feels, well I guess you wouldn't, you don't have a heart" Mr. Fletcher shouted in a loud and barbaric tone. Mr. Fletcher's feelings were of anger. "Why?" Mrs. Fletcher already knew the answer. Mrs. Fletcher collapsed and picked up the pieces to see if it was fixable. " Now stay out of my life" Howled Mr. Fletcher at the top of his voice. Each member of the Compson Family is practically a contrary of old southern ideals and beliefs. Speaking solely about Kate Chopin, this quote puts emphasis upon Chopin’s disputes with her society. She used her writing as a technique to indirectly explicate her life by the means of narrating her stories through the characters she created. Kate Chopin was one of the modern writers of her time, one who wrote novels concentrating on the common social matters related to women. Her time period consisted of other female authors that focused on the same central theme during the era: exposing the unfairness of the patriarchal society, and women’s search for selfhood, and their search for identity. In Chopin’s novel The Awakening, she incorporates the themes mentioned above to illustrate the veracity of life as she understood it. A literary work approached by the feminist critique seeks to raise awareness of the importance and higher qualities of women. Women in literature may uncover their strengths or find their independence, raising their own self recognition. Several critics deem Chopin as one of the leading feminists of her age because she was willing to publish stories that dealt with women becoming self-governing, who stood up for themselves and novels that explored the difficulties that they faced during the time. Chopin scrutinized sole problems and was not frightened to suggest that women desired something that they were not normally permitted to have: independence. Chopin’s decision to focus on and emphasize the imbalances between the sexes is heavily influenced by her upbringing, her feelings towards society, and the era she subsisted in.

    The Sound and the Fury is a story of sometimes unclear focus. From section to section we listen to three brothers: Benjy, Quintin and Jason, discuss their lives. We discover the inner workings of their home lives. The narratives disclose that their mother, Caroline Compson is a neglectful, hypochondriac. Mrs. Compson is shown to be a very self centered woman who really doesn't harbor any affection for her family and by this lack sends some of them to find mothering from a different source. “ How can I control any of them when you have always taught them to have no respect for me and my wishes I know you look down on my people but is that any reason for teaching my children my own children I suffered for to have no respect.” (Faulkner, 61) We meet Mr. Compson, the father, who is shown to love his children dearly, though in the case of some does not always like them all. He just happens to be an alcoholic, “Father will be dead in a year they say if he doesn't stop drinking and he wont stop he cant stop....” (Faulkner, 79) who is eventually killed by his addictions. Also introduced and discussed are the various household staff members whom the brothers love as if they were family. The brothers discuss horrors and anxieties that they are dealing with in their personal lives. Benjy's horrors of being unable to communicate, being tormented by his brother, Jason, and eventually being castrated due to a misunderstanding cover section one. In section two, Quintin takes his turn to share the anxieties that time and sexuality (among other things) cause him. The last of the brothers narrations, that of Jason, delve into the cruelty he imparts on others, as well as the bitterness and struggles he rapidly accumulates in raising his niece. All o...
