DEFINITION
“Isola te gain is the transfer of heat into the space to be heated from a collector that is thermally isolated from the space to be heated by physical separation or insulation (such as an attached sunspace with an insulated commd on wall)”
Sunspaces
Sunspaces or Sunrooms which are similar to solar greenhouses work with the elements of direct gain and indirect gain system features. Sunlight entering the sunroom is kept in the thermal mass and air of the room. Sunlight is brought into the house by way of conduction through a shared mass wall in the rear of the sunroom, or by strategically placed vents that permit the air between the sunroom and living space to be exchanged by convection. There are 3 types of sunspaces, we have the direct gain sunspaces, air exchange subsystem ams well as the thermal wall srorage subsystem

In the direct gain sysyem the open conlazed wall conection between the sunspace and the living space has a glazed shared wall. This wall provides a certain amount of thermal separation allowing the tempratures in the sunspace to fluctuate without affecting the amount of heat loss in the living area .it is still essentially a buffer between the outside and inside air.
The air exchange system has a dark opaque wall which has small operable vents that allow the transfer of heat from the sunspace into the main living space. The closing of these vent act as a buffer zone, which reduce the heat gain through the wal...

At it is still able to make a cool place to relax during the summer months. The use of doors windows and vents allow the sunspace to cool the house as wel as cool itself. The ed sun that travels thru the windows gets carried out by the vents at the top of the roofas well as the use of cross convection as well as placing openings such as a door or a window opening on the west and east sides of the sunspace. The north- west prevailing wind can ente the space carring off the heated air , the hot air collected can be dispersed through the vent openings
Use of Overhangs allow to enter in the winter but keeps it out in the summer
Summer and winter sun difer in that the sun is higher in the sky during the summer months and lower during the winter months . by the use of eaves we allow all the summer sun to be blocked and therefore shading the sunspace area.
