“James Luna, A Native American Man,” is an insightful, cut the bullshit, view of the modern Indian culture. I identify with Luna’s viewpoints as I have seen many of the situations he describes with his art to be true to life. I have spent a lot of time in Northern Canada fishing with my brother and father. The areas we visit are predominantly Indian reservations. Having spent quite a bit of time getting to know these types of towns and people, I have grown aware of some of the many problems that surround the modern day reservation lifestyle.
It is true that most people have romantic and Disneyland-ish ideas about what it means to be a modern Indian, the most of which are complete fantasy. The reality behind the situation seems to be the exact opposite. The majority of reservation towns are dirty, poor, and run-down. Many of the people have alcohol and drug related problems starting at a young age. At a quick drive through one might assume he was passing through another slum. There are no teepees, no headdresses, and no rituals. For the most part there is only poverty. Unless the town is lucky enough to have a casino, the majority of the people live month to month on their reparation checks. This is where I believe, as do many of the Indians I have spoken to, the problem lies.
The idea of reparations sounds good enough in theory. Pay people back for what was taken from them long ago. The long-term effects of reparations though tend to be devastating to the Indian culture. Why would giving people free money be harmful? Quite simply, handouts deprive people of pride, a sense of equality and belonging, and especially motivation. The people I have talked to all claim the same thing…Children growing up know that they don’t have to work if they don’t want to. That tends to be the common attitude of the reservation Indian. This also encourages what Luna calls, “Wannabee’s,” to try and get in on the action for a chunk of change. And lets not forget the known tendencies toward alcohol and addiction that makes it even easier to drink and pass the time, rather than having to work and entrepreneur.

Because they carry more specialty goods, customers will need and want more assistance leading to increased value of customer service. One of their policies is that they will accept any merchandise that people bring back without asking any questions. As stated in Macionis (2013), parents give a social identity to children through race which can be complex because societies define race in various ways (Sec 5.3). To learn the social norms and knowledge to integrate into society, people with different racial ethnicities must use this association of socialization to learn expectations from others. With the issues of racism still existing in our society today, children tend to experience a majority of prejudice through their interpersonal relationships with other adolescences in school. At this point in their lives, young people tend to break away from their families and gain their own sense of identity. Despite this, race still determines their social class and people born into families with low social positions tend to face judgement from others. In a particular academic research journal I found, it examined the correlation between racial socialization and family teachings about racial class. According to Brown (2007), “familial ethnic/race socialization is the process by which families teach children about the social meaning and consequences of ethnicity and race (pg. 14).” As individuals spend more time at school, they are more likely to face racialized interactions and questions about their ethnicity. Therefore, the findings implied that the main objective of race socialization was to promote ethnic diversity including building the tolerance of other races for white children. By having that desire to fit in with other groups, they imitate the behavior of others to achieve their desired social position, a process defined as anticipatory socialization (Macionis, Sec 5.3). The Utilitarian ethical theory “states that the choice that yields the greatest benefit to the most people is the choice that is ethically correct; therefore, ethics are the standards of behavior by which conduct is judged; hence, standards that are legal may not always be ethical” (Shaw, 2014). The statement “In the land of the free trade, the public does not view all industries as equal” is considered to be true. First, in my opinion it is ethical due to the fact that some of the companies are fairly new in the industry and have to prove to the consumers that their products are worth taking a look at as well as if they will be getting their money’s worth from it once they purchase it.

A quality management system is "a system for effectively and efficiently managing the processes that deliver products (goods and services) to customers" (Ryall and Kruithof, 2001). According to the definition of the organization of International Standards Organization (ISO, 9001:2000), Quality management system means "Everything that is demanded and agreed upon must meet the approval of the worker and the producer resulting in a higher quality production at a reasonable cost". The manner concept of quality management system depends on the understandable composition, at which the organization looks to; for instance, processes like hospital care, medical interventions.
Quality is defined as a process that measures the requirements of the satisfaction pertaining to the end product, it can be measured as integrity, customer satisfaction and on a personal level of satisfaction, as well as identify if a process or procedure is working within its control limits. Quality, typically identified and perceived as a nonvalue added process simply because in a perfect world were all processes are built and constructed, the design already includes the quality within the process, solely the end customer is not willing to pay extra money for a quality issue, their expectations are when they purchase a product it is a quality product. There are three approaches to this theory: quality control, quality assurance and Total Quality Management (TQM). Quality control tries to manage and reduce errors at each phase of production and quality assurance focuses on how workers can reduce defects by enhancing their performance of tasks. Total Quality Management incorporates both of these concepts as well as striving for continuous improvement, or small incremental changes to processes to improve quality and efficiency. It is similar to Systems management in that feedback from customers is vital in working to improve processes. Another facet of TQM is the use of benchmarking. Benchmarking compares the business to the best practices of competitors and tries to improve to meet and exceed the higher standard. The concept of quality has existed for many years, though its meaning has changed and evolved over time. During the twentieth century, quality management referred to meeting the needs of the specifications. After World War 2, quality management took a more statistical definition of quality charts being established and carefully monitoring the processes. The meaning of quality changed drastically in the late 1970s where many US industries lost market share to foreign competition and in order to survive, the companies started to make major changes in their quality programs. And since 1970s competition based on quality started to take importance and companies in every line of business are focusing on improving quality in order to be more competitive.
