Alberto Romero Professor Wilson English 109 31 August 2015 Your Closet Says The old pullovers one doesn't really wear anymore, a raincoat that still has the tags, the sweater one received as a christmas present and only wore it once. After all that section, one has their workout clothes, then the clothes one uses to got out on a fancy dinner and then there is the casual everyday clothes. ¨What Your Closet Reveals about You¨ is an essay written by Amy Tan in which she explains what one´s own closet says about one's mood or personality. There are a lot of people including myself that have their closet tell their life story, ¨My closet was a repository of foibles and fetishes, an archive of my personality and life history.¨(668). Whether they are old, stained, washed down, worn out, one just will not wear them to save their lives. Tan has what seems like an identical description of the id, ¨At the farthest reaches of the closet- the corners of the topmost shelves, squeezed behind uncoded shoe boxes, crammed at the back of drawers… resides the id.¨ (669). Tan later on says those are the type you would wake up to when riding in an ambulance. These are the wear them once just so you never have to wear them again type of clothes. My id clothes are a couple of old t-shirts which used to be my favorite shirts in middle school that have been washed down and are way at the bottom of my drawers. I haven't grabbed them in so long it just feels weird when you look at old pictures and remember you still have that shirt somewhere. This just tells you people have clothes that they just can´t really get rid of because maybe it was a favorite shirt before or it has some type of meaning for them. As it can be seen, one´s closet can be divided into the three categories: ego, superego, and the id. And it doesn't have to be separated into sections, they are mostly scattered all around. Clothes reflect one's own personality or mood depending on how one is dressed. I usually wear my ego clothes or casual clothes which would be a t-shirt and shorts, and just by that you can tell I'm easygoing. Everyone is different and have many different styles and personalities, but just by looking into one's own closet, one can certainly say that their own closet reveals many things about
