1. Compare Wyatt's buffalo hunting to the approach used by the old timers? There were many differences in the hunting approaches between Wyatt Earp and the old timers. The first difference was the size of the hunting parties. Wyatt Earp had two people in his hunting party and the old timers had six to seven. The second difference was the firearms that were used. The old timers used a rifle and Wyatt Earp used a shotgun. The third difference was the type of shot taken. Wyatt shot at close range and the old timers shot at long range. Some other differences were the way the herd of buffalo was controlled and the daily goal of buffalo to kill. The old timers tried to shoot curious buffalo and aimed to kill 100 a day which was an unattainable goal. Wyatt controlled the movements of the herd and aimed to kill 25 a day which was reachable and reached regularly. 2. What are the key elements of business success from an operations perspective? The key elements of business success are the people involved, the location, the supplies that are available, the plan that’s made as well as cost. 3. Relate these ideas to Wyatt's approach. …show more content…
Since he only had two people involved they had to be knowledgeable and skilled. Using this approach kept costs as low as possible but also provided buyers with high quality products. The location of any business, Wyatt Earp’s in particular, has to be chosen very carefully. You want a location that will yield you the best results. Since Wyatt decided to control the movement of the herd, he had to pick a location that would allow him to do so. That was part of his plan, pick the right location, have the right people, control the herd, reach his goal. He had everything worked out in a way that kept costs low, let him control what was going on, but also to reach his goals and produce high quality
...rnia. Wyatt Earp died on January 13, 1929, and his fame as a lawman has continued to grow since his death. Wyatt Earp literally shot his way into the hearts of Western America. He is familiar to the nation’s people, young and old. From Ellsworth, Kansas to Tombstone, Arizona, he cleaned the streets of desperadoes in town after town. He shot coolly, he shot straight, and he shot deadly, but only in self-defense. Like any other person whose reputation leaned on firepower, there were those who wanted to test, to see if their draw was a split second quicker or if they could find a weak spot. Wyatt put many of their doubts to rest. When the history of the western lawmen is placed in view, Earp’s name leads the parade of Hickok, Masterson, Garrett, Tilghman and all the rest.
In 1876 Wyatt Earp was hired as an assistant Marshall in Dodge City, Kansas, one of the worst places in America at the time. In Dodge City daylight muggings and nighttime shootings were an everyday thing. When Wyatt became a lawman there he was able to stop the crimes without killing anybody, he put them in jail. One of his techniques was called ?buffaloing? where he would knock a criminal on the head with his favorite weapon, the Colt 45.
Black Elk was a holy man of the Oglala band of the Lakota Sioux nation. Black Elk interpreted his life as a holy man as "the story of a mighty vision" (BES, p. 2). As a child, Black Elk was blessed with a great vision from the other world. In receiving his great vision, Black Elk received a great power, a "power to make over" (BES, p. 201), a power to make things better for sick and suffering individuals and nations. He did not know it at the time, but this vision would be the blueprint of his life. It would guide him through times when he doubted his importance to his people. He had other visions, but they all tied into the great vision he experienced as a child. Black Elk made incredible achievements for his people. However, when he grew older and looked back on his life, he did not see the powerful impact he had made on his people.
In the movie Wyatt Earp was getting ready to move to California to marry. Then he got word that his brother Virgil was in danger and needed his help with a rowdy bunch of cowboys. Dee Brown said, "Wyatt decided Dodge was too tame for him and at the end of the season he, Doc, and Big-Nose Kate left for Tombstone." His arrival in Arizona with Doc and Kate was already a problem since highly acclaimed Wyatt Earp was riding in with the cold-blooded killer, Doc Holliday. The film portrayed Wyatt's brothers as being very wary of Doc's presence, but they already knew what he had done for Wyatt so they had accepted him as friend, but that did not go for the rest of the town.

Gunfights were common and took place regularly. The earliest gunfighters, or gunslingers, were born in the early 1800’s, and most men got recognition as slingers in the 1850’s. The founder of gunfighting was “Old Man Clanton”, or N. H. Clanton. In 1816, Newman Haynes "Old Man" Clanton was born in Davidson County, Tennessee. On January 5, 1840 Newman Clanton married Mariah Sexton Kelso in Callaway County, Missouri and together they had five boys and two daughters. John Wesley, Joseph Isaac, Phineas Fay, William Harrison, Alonzo Peter, Mary Elise and Ester Ann made up the Clanton Gang. He did not participate in many gunfights though he instigated many of them. Old Man Clanton took care of business swiftly. If he did not like somebody, he would simply point them out, and one of his sons would provoke an argument and shoot the man down in “self defense”. Old Man Clanton had formed a “cowboy party” which consisted of some of the deadliest men in the West. Curley Bill, John Ringo, Tim and Frank McLaury, Joe Hill, Pony Deal, Jim Hughes, Frank Stillwell and many other lieutenants, who had over four hundred frontier outcast under them, formed this group. He stole over $100,000 from ranchers in the south, and anyone who opposed was quickly exterminated. Old Man Clanton’s final days ended with a stolen-cattle drive. While he was passing through Guadeloupe Canyon, he and six other men were ambushed and shot dead out of their saddles. "Old Man" Clanton was buried where he fell in Guadalupe Canyon, New Mexico.
In the fall of 1879, Wyatt and his brothers Morgan and Virgil journeyed by horseback down to Tombstone, Arizona. There he furthered his reputation as a gunfighter, first as deputy sheriff of Pima Co. and later as deputy U.S. marshal for the entire Arizona Territory. Earp and three of his brothers, together with the American frontiersman Doc Holliday, participated in the famous O.K. Corral gunfighter in 1881, during which they killed several suspected cattle rustlers.
First, in the quest to make a name for yourself you may succeed at it but not get the desired result. First, from the start a man wants to be known and in Wyatt Earps quest to he infuriates the entire nation. For example, Earp is the referee at a high stakes boxing match when he makes the call that will haunt him the rest of his life, “Fitzsimmons, to that point the clear winner, sent his opponent sprawling to the canvas with what Earp judged a low blow… was Earp a crook” he is a man who has gone by his gut his entire life and it has served him well but in a arena full of spectators throwing money at each fighter does he call it a low blow on purpose or was he calling as he sees it; Earp has always lived his life to be a respectable man, however money can corrupt a man and who calls a fight on the obvious winner unless you have something to lose (banks 58). Next, Earp basically threw a boxing match, and you don’t throw such an important boxing match unless you were bribed. For instance, even though he made the call few saw it, “a foul many never saw” so you can infer from that if “never saw it” that it was made up and he was bribed to throw the fight (Banks 59). Last, in the west he was considered the shiny example of the law, but this one thing has ruined him. To show this, he was once one of the finest marshals that lived but he is known for throwing a boxing match, “ the incorruptible frontiersman exposed” and...
In old, but not so ancient times, native americans populated our land widely with different tribes diverged. One of the most widely known and popular tribes was named the Cherokee tribe and was formed as early as 1657. Their history is vast and deep, and today we will zone into four major points of their culture: their social organizations and political hierarchy, the tribe’s communication and language, a second form of communication in their arts and literature, and the Cherokee’s religion.
Almost half of the deer that are shot by archery hunters are wounded and suffer a long time. Bow hunting can be unethical because half the deer shot are never found and die a very slow painful death a week or so later. Although, bow hunting may be fun, too many deer are wounded, lost, and suffer for a prolonged period.
Hunting couldn’t have revolutionized if our ancestors didn’t start. However, before the Europeans arrived, the “Plain Hunters” were living and thriving off of the buffalo. “Cheyenne, Arapaho, Crow, and Dakota were late comers to the west. They used to be settled down waiting for the heard. They soon erupted in to life of nomadic Indians. They “ran” with the heard going where ever the buffalo went” (http://www.cabrillo.edu/~crsmith/noamer_plains.html). Hunting doesn’t stop improving there, it continues on. In order for the buffalo to go down they had to work together, because of their weapon of choice. When the 15th century rolled around the gun appeared with it.
Not long ago, many of the Native American tribes that lived in North America, particularly those in the Great Plains region, held a dependency upon the American bison (bison bison). While the Natives relied on their traditional methods of hunting and cooking that many people today would consider primitive, these bison were necessities to the Natives and hunting the animals was an essential to their well-being. A common knowledge in the history of the Natives is that they often tried to utilize as many parts of the bison as they could; they did not appreciate wasting any parts of these animals that were considered vitalities in their lives. The Natives often used the bison hides for clothing, blankets and teepees, made tools out of the bison’s
Nowadays, when people mention cowboys, they are easily come up with the cowboy culture and also realize a lot of western movies. Cowboy culture not only influences Western, but also influence the Eastern countries, such as my home country China. When I was a child, people in China used to watch movies to know the western culture and the cowboy was the one figure what the western people are and what their characteristics which seek for freedom and try to explore larger area and they never showed afraid out. Chinese people can learn a lot culture differences from watching western movies. Cowboys gave the image that they are always wear the cowboy hat, jeans and also the cowboy boots and they also showed in the movies which several cowboys who
Those three things are confidentiality, committed service, and the true about entrepreneurship. The true about entrepreneurship is the produce you wish to sell has to be great, you must have good marketing, and you must have skillful financial management. I identify most with the financial part of being an efficient entrepreneur. I have always seemed to be handle and deal with money well since a young age, and I see where this is very important in business. I am not surprised that one person cannot start a successful business on their own. No one has every started a company on their own. Its takes more than one person to have the skills required to run a productive business. When someone is trying to help, they need to learn what the people need help with rather than assuming they know what the problems are. A holistic perspective is that no part of culture can be completely understood alone. What does not seem like a normal method to one person from one area, maybe the best way to do something in another area. This is why listening is so important when trying to help others to see what they need instead of
