In the workplace there are many different aspects of the organization. Some of the aspects or 'culture' of an organization are organizational diversity, dress and language, how communication flows, and organizational policies. Below I will discuss several aspects of the company I work for and define what the different cultures are.
How Communication Flows
As we know today there are many ways how to communicate. There is email, verbal, Internet, intranet, etc? However, there is only two ways communications flows. There is upward communication defined as ?communication from an employee to supervisor, supervisor to department head, department head to vice-president, and so on.? (Abbott 2005) The other flow is downward communication, which is described as ?"Information flowing from the top of the organizational management hierarchy and telling people in the organization what is important (mission) and what is valued (policies)." (Andrews 1996) In my company we definitely use upward communication. When anything important is going on it seems to impact the employees more when it?s sent from one of the directors. Taken with greater importance and definitely put into to play if applicable. I feel that there is more control and is more effective using upward communication.

Kroger’s formal communication structure or flow utilized within the chain of command defined by the organizations CEO uses the three formal channels and types of information that is conveyed in a downward, upward, and horizontal communication style. This is used by the top CEO, Rodney McMullen, in a downward style through the numerous chains of command, finally reaching all the way to the various store brands and store level management. Downward communication, comes from the top CEO level and is communicated down through the chains of command. An example of how culture has influenced Kroger’s downward communication can be seen in the use of videos posted by Kroger’s CEO. Upward communication is when messages come from the subordinate levels to higher in the organization’s management pyramid (Daft, 2012, p.579-580). Also, an overall respect for the unique cultural and language differences can change a reluctant student into one that feels he/she belongs. And most important of all teachers need to have the highest of expectations for all students and promote grit and talent development rather than have low expectations that make a students feel they are inferior. And finally teachers need to avoid the stereotype threat. The students in our classrooms, both special education and general education classrooms, require individualized education to reach their full potential. Each child’s potential is different just as each child’s road to reach it is different. Our job as teachers is to be there for the student’s to help them reach their potential through their own unique way.
Classrooms of today are full of students with varying learning abilities and styles, therefore teachers are put in a position to involve each of their students equally so that everyone has the greatest chance of success in their learning. Schein (1988). Organizational culture can be defined as a system of shared beliefs and values that develops within an organization and guides the behavior of its members. It includes routine behaviors, norms, dominant values, and feelings or climates. The purpose and function of this culture is to help foster internal integration, bring staff members from all levels of the organization closer together, and enhance their performance.

When working at Borders Books as an assistant manager I experienced a lot of downward communication. The president, vice president, top-level managers, etc. would communicate a decision to my general manager. My general manager would then communicate that decision to the assistant managers, which I am one of. Our job would be to install this communicated decision to all of the employees. If the decision was communicated well, this form of communication worked well, if not it did not.
George’s teachers/aide will review his behavioral plan weekly. At the Friday meeting, if changes are needed, the teachers will strategies and combine ideas to decrease his negative behaviors. All teachers involved must agree upon any slight changes. The behavioral plan will be set for a 15-day cycle. Once the cycle is over, a new approach can be substituted or revised.
Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal will be to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique. I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. People even said that it is hard to define culture and even more change it. It is considered a complex part of an organization although many have believed that culture influences employee behavior and organizational effectiveness (Kilmann, Saxton, & Serpa 1985; Marcoulides & Heck, 1993; Schein, 1985a, 1990).
Education is an ever-changing part of society. A classroom teacher is faced with new challenges and obstacles that have never been dealt with before. Students come to the classroom with different life stories. Every student has strengths and weaknesses that surface in the classroom environment. Teachers must understand and focus on utilizing each student's strengths and work to improve weaknesses. Students learn in a variety of ways. The classroom must be a safe zone that appreciates student's viewpoints and allows room for mistakes. When topics in the classroom are related to "real-life" experiences, the information is more likely to be retained. Students learn from one another. The ideas and perspectives that each student brings to the classroom can bring insight into what is being learned. Students have to be allowed to explore new ideas, try them to see if they work, and sometimes fail. When students are encouraged to explore, they begin the process of becoming lifelong learners.

Mr. Schull took 2 pictures (attached) of you while you were sleeping with his county issued cell phone. Mr. Blevins woke you up and advised you to return to the Edison Support Center to discuss this incident.
We need to continuously assess and evaluate our students so we can set appropriate goals for each student and individual instructions. Each child learns different, so as a teacher we need to have different styles of teaching for positive reinforcement.
