Poem sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare shows how love can survive any road block life throws at them but Bruce Springsteen lyrics The River shows how love crumbles at obstacles that appears in life. Questions between both poem and lyrics ask what's the similarity and difference between the two. The two are about how love can effect people in different ways and how people can react to situations life throws at people good and bad. William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, regarded as the foremost dramatist of his time, wrote more than thirty plays and more than one hundred sonnets, all written in the form of three quatrains and a couplet that is now recognized as Shakespearean. Love is what you make of it, it can mean something different to everybody the love of a pet is different then the love of a child. The love of a animate object like a car, toy, or a book are different. The love of someone's favorite football team or any sport team is also a different feeling and meaning then the love of a family the lost of a championship game may last a few days compared the lost of a child, parent or wife or husband that would stay with someone for the rest of their life. Some couples who are together for a long time could believe they are in love even though they do not have the same interest or dreams it could just be they are in a route meaning that's all they know and can not picture life without the other person because it has become a habit of being with that person just like having something that you had since you where a kid but can't get rid of it, you do not use it no more but still can not throw it away. So the question again is what truly is ever lasting
