Why Study History?
History is a critical part of schools all around the world. Year after year students have to learn about topics that they think are trivial. These students believe that history is not important and shouldn’t be studied in school. However these students are misguided in their beliefs about history. History is a vital part of human culture and should be studied in school. History can help humans solve our current problems, help people understand others and societies, and history provides cultural identity to many different groups.
History can help humans solve current problems that humans are having today. Today many problems are faced by the world. For example the United States is having a voter turnout issue today as fewer people are voting in major elections. History can shed light on this problem. Historians can go back into past elections to see the percentage of the population that voted in past elections to see if the voter turnout issue is something that is rooted in the past or something that has happened recently. If it is something that has happened recently historians can try to locate the problem. This sort of historical analysis is something that can be applied to other problems that humans have today. If humans use history to find data to solve historical problems, solving these problems becomes much easier. If humans stop studying history centuries upon centuries of evidence would be ignored. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack but ignoring the metal detector that is easily accessible. It doesn’t make sense to ignore the metal detector and furthermore it doesn’t make sense to ignore history.

Histories that tell the national story, emphasizing distinctive features of the national experience, are meant to drive home an understanding of national values and a commitment to national loyalty.
In conclusion history is a critical part of human culture and schools all around the world. History is a critical part of human life and humans cannot just turn their backs on centuries of past experiences. History can help humans solve our current problems, help people understand others and societies, and history provides cultural identity to many different groups. Humans cannot just pretend that the past did not happen. The past sets up the future and this is why humans cannot turn their backs on history.
