White Shark: Mindless Killer or Misunderstood Creature Over the years, many people have been attacked by sharks throughout the world. However, does this warrant the hunting of White sharks? When we stop to think at why this might happen; many people might believe that sharks are terrible creatures that are out for human blood. Portrayed by Hollywood as giant man eaters, sharks are actually amazing creatures. Sharks are not known to go out of their way to bite humans. It is the fault of movies like JAWS and Deep Blue Sea that make this terrifying notion of being eaten every time we step in the ocean. The realistic fact is that White sharks are very inquisitive creatures. They are not the vicious man killers that they are portrayed to be, but rather misunderstood majestic animals. We as humans need to understand why it is that they bite and how we can coexist with them in the water. White Sharks are not the mindless killers that they are portrayed to be, but rather inquisitive creatures with different personalities and temperaments. This stereotype could not be farther from the truth. White sharks are naturally inquisitive creatures and since they do not have hands to feel out their unfamiliar objects, they use their teeth to explore, like a young puppy. The issue is that white sharks, Carcharodon carchaharias, are quite massive in size, they average between eleven to thirteen feet for smaller males and females average fifteen to sixteen feet in length (Parrish). A curious nibble from one of these huge sharks could do some serious damage to any victim that might be unfortunate enough to be a play thing.
