Volunteering: The Role Of Volunteerism In An NGO

1. Introduction

Volunteering is helping, serving and assisting people without expecting something in return. In the following assignment I am going to discuss volunteering through the following: the role of voluntarism in the NGO and what specific role I performed as a volunteer. I will also be outlining areas where volunteers can be utilised in the NGO as well as providing any recommendations for volunteerism in social work. All of the above will be answered underneath either Sicelo Clinic or NG Welsyn which was the two NGO’s I volunteered at. 3. What specific role did I play as a volunteer?

Sicelo Clinic

At Sicelo Clinic I performed the role as a field work volunteer. In the morning we helped out at the clinic while waiting for the doctor to arrive to give out daily tasks. When the doctor arrived he gave us the lists and explained how we should fill them in.

I then walked with two of the nurses whose responsibility it was to keep me safe during the day, as there where strikes going on in the area.
