Impacts and Interactions in Vietnam History since 13th Century

The world after Mongol conquest has been shaped and changed significantly by various important history events. These events had huge impacts on nations’ politics, economy and society. Nations were involved in the world rapid modernization process. The country I researched on is Vietnam. In this essay, I will address on the impact of important events happened since the 13th century had on Vietnam history, and the interactions between Vietnam and other parts of the world.
From 13th century to 20th century, Vietnam went through Trần Dynasty, Hồ Dynasty, Chinese domination, Later Lê Dynasty, Tây Sơn Dynasty, Nguyễn Dynasty, French “New Imperialism” and finally the Republic. The basic nature of Vietnam society did not change much during the time between independence from China in the 10th century and the colonization of French in the 19th century. The king had the highest authority in society. Absolute monarchy, agriculture economy and Chinese Confucian philosophy was the foundation of Vietnamese society.
The Mongol conquest impacted the Vietnam history. Mongols (Chinese Yuan Dynasty) invaded Vietnam in 1257. There were altogether three invasions from 1257 to 1288. Due to the heat weather, diseases and the Vietnamese resistant, Mongols were defeated. In general, Mongols did not change Vietnam politics directly. However, the ravage of Mongol invasion, military campaigns and royal incompetence finally let to an economic crisis which hastened the end of the Tran dynasty (1400).
