After many months of suffering from stomach pain, the patient finally comes in to the office with life threating injuries. As the UT (ULTRA SOUND TECH) gets ready to do his procedure on the patient he faints, immediately the doctors go to help the patient. As the UT does his work on the patient he discovers a large tumor in the stomach of the patient. While he’s trying to find the patients stomach he finds that the tumor grew bigger than his stomach . Now that the UT has this terrible news he must act professional even though he is also in shock, so the patient knows he is in good hands. Therefore as I enter in this career I must prepare my self for all the unexpected things this job will bring me. To become an ultra sound technician you must have certain types of education requirement, if you don’t have them you cant become one or someone who does have them can end up replacing you. Some jobs do not offer you a high position. Therefore, they will be stuck doing the same job until they cant anymore. Luckily I will not have those problems with my job. The job advancement for an ultrasound technician is high and have some of the best paying job opportunities.(“accreditedschoolsonline.com”) The most high paying jobs out of the many other job offers they are is an MRI technologist, Radiologic technologist and an Ultrasound tech. There isn’t a limit for this career. You can go as far as you want or stay in the job you are most comfortable in. I prefer to achieve as much as I possibly can because I want to discover what position I like the most. Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system. Other types of sonography include; abdominal sonography, breast sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, neurosonography and cardiovascular sonography. Due to the vast nature of uses in sonography, most professionals study one field that they choose to specialize in. Examples of adjustments that can be made to the work station include, chair type, chair height, keyboard position, monitor position, as well as table position (HSA, 2014). Different equipment modifications will need to be made to suit the sonographer’s ergonomic needs for every exam. For example, Carolyn Coffin discuses techniques related to endovaginal scanning. She explains that while performing an endovaginal exam you should move the ultrasound machine to the end of the table providing close access to the machine and keyboard. She also suggests that you move your chair to sit between the patient’s legs; this will provide an ergonomically proper position for the sonographer. By making proper ergonomic changes based off exam type sonographers will alleviate pain as well as aid in MSI prevention (Coffin, 2014).
The dream that I most desire in life is to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. I’ve always had an interest in the inner workings of the human body, but I also value life, and care for others, and my happiness is the happiness of others. Although this career has its bumps on the road just to see mothers face light up when they see the image of their unborn baby is such a breath taking experience. Choosing this field is something that has a profound connection with my personal life. Becoming a Diagnostic Medical sonographer would mean that I have accomplished life long dream. Ever since I was a little, I always wanted to be in the medical field. I have always had a big heart and wanted to help people so when I saw the important role that sonographers play in the medical field, it became clear to me that being a sonographer was exactly what I want to do with my life. In 2007 someone who was very important to me passed away due to gastric cancer. When my grandmother, who was a mother, father, and a friend to me, was diagnosed with gastric cancer my world collapsed. It was devastating news, not only for me but also for the whole family.
One objective of pediatric audiology is to estimate hearing thresholds so that hearing loss can be identified, quantified, and remediated during critical language-learning years. Although the goal is to closely estimate hearing thresholds, not all infants and children are able to provide behavioral responses that are close to threshold. Because audiologic test methods may not result in threshold estimates, Matkin (1977) coined the term Minimum Response Level (MRL), which is now widely used in the field of pediatric audiology. Matkin recommended using the term MRL to refer to audiologic behavioral responses obtained from pediatric clients when using techniques such as visual reinforcement audiometry “…until the reliability and the validity of the initial test findings are evaluated over time” (pg. 130). The use of the term MRL, according to Matkin, implies that the response behaviors may not be audiometric thresholds but may improve with the child’s maturation. Matkin provided an example, from an unpublished pilot study, when responses may not be indicative of audiometric thresholds. He stated that if a child is “actively involved in a play activity, response levels tended to be 20 to 30 dB poorer than those obtained when there was no sensory input competition”. Karzon (2007) mirrors this definition by recommending that MRLs be used, to represent the “best” response obtained rather than a threshold, when stimulus-response control is not achieved during visual reinforcement audiology (VRA) and/or conditioned play audiometry (CPA).

Poulos provided support to one of her patients during a stressful time when diagnosed with prostate cancer. She was diligent during his six week course of radiation treatment. The patient was monitored closely for any untoward symptoms that could interfere with his dialysis treatments. The fluid gains and/or losses between treatments interrupted his normal bowel function. She worked with the physicians to achieve a positive outcome for the patient. Ms. Poulos had another patient she worked closely with who had a few hospitalizations in this past year for ischemic colitis. Being a fragile older man the surgery team felt he needed to be treated conservatively. Taking care of this patient was challenging because it was difficult to keep his blood pressure elevated to prevent further ischemic issues however her diligence in caring for the patient lead to his success.

I find it fascinating that modern imaging technology allows us to view the body’s organs to see their functions and diagnose possible conditions or diseases. A sound wave is a longitudinal, mechanical wave that transfers energy whilst compressing and refracting through a uniform medium. Therefore, as sound waves move through a uniform medium, the wave will experience a gradual reduction in it’s power. When sound waves pass through the medium it interacts with the molecules and the energy is transferred to the uniform medium, as heat is generated from the molecules vibrating back forth. The heat generated from the transfer of energy reduces the power of the wave.
