Imagine living in a world where you get a $35 parking ticket every single week. For students at the University of Florida, this scenario is real life. As high school students go through the process of picking the college of their dreams, most do not consider the struggle of parking on campus. Therefore, the thousands of naive freshman that choose the University of Florida become enraged when the only place their decal allows them to park appears completely full, or when reckless students push all the scooters over just to park within the lines in order to prevent a ticket. The UF parking problem comes as an obvious issue, not only to students, but to everyone that brings their car on university grounds. Even visitors that only stay for a night …show more content…
However, if the university realizes that helping the problem can also help the environment around campus, then they may consider some worthy proposals. As this ongoing concern at the University of Florida continues, multiple ideas arise as ways to help the issue. From adding encouraging students or faculty to use bikes, to not selling more decals than parking spots, or even allowing students to only purchase one decal for either their car or scooter, anything can help these UF students, while also helping the environment and economy. As an outsider looking in, this parking phenomenon may not seem like such a dire problem, however, students at the university beg to differ. One University of Florida student writes "Although a car is not necessary for campus, it is very useful. Unfortunately, the parking on campus is a nightmare. The permit costs are incredibly expensive, especially because they oversell by a huge percentage”(Crabbe). This student points out the many issues that arise from the UF parking system. First off, the university tends to sell more decals than parking spaces available. As …show more content…
Other schools have implemented rules and techniques in order to make parking easier and limit the amount of citations given to students for parking. Solutions such as car-pooling and limiting the issue of parking permits solves this problem for universities across the nation. For example, Cornell implements a system that encourages students to carpool. In this system students that carpool have the opportunity to park closer to popular sections on campus. Also, parking for these carpooling cars may be less expensive and these students may even be given a rebate for agreeing to carpool. Having this carpooling system added advantages towards Cornell’s parking system, introduced by high level economist Ehrenberg “..all these carefully calibrated initiatives forestalled having to add new paved areas on the central campus, cut down on the number of vehicles nearby, and provided clear incentives for those who participated”(Olivas). Proving that this system Cornell uses not only helps the university economically, but also confronts the issue on parking. Nevertheless, more universities also have rules that effectively ease parking. The University of New Hampshire prohibits freshman and sophomore residents, and others living within half a mile of campus from bringing their cars on campus. While the University of Wisconsin-Madison will only issue
Reducing the prices for the CSUF parking is necessary and important since there are so few parking spots available. About a majority of the students who are commuting to Cal State Fullerton own a parking permit, yet they probably would state that it
When the bell rings for students to go home the quiet and serene field of asphalt in front of school becomes a sinkhole and everyone is fighting to get out. Most school parking lots are accessible, safe, and orderly; the Hinckley-Big Rock High School parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. With so many problems, a slight redesign of the schools main parking lot would seem practical.
Being a student at Texas Woman’s University I am aware of some of the problems that occur on campus. Unfortunately, the parking situation here on campus sticks out like a sore thumb. Whether you can’t find an open parking space anywhere on campus or whether you just can’t justify paying $70.00 for a parking permit when it doesn’t guarantee you a parking spot. Not only are students fighting traffic to find a parking spot, but they are also having to park long distances from their class, which can become a major problem in the middle of winter in Texas. All of these problems faced by students that attend this university all boil down to how more parking needs to be added to this university. Throughout this essay I will inform you about a possible
As a non-traditional student of the University Mary Hardin Baylor, I can say parking policies could use some changes. I understand the need for parking policies for safety and security reasons, but some parking rules are just ridiculous. My family has four vehicles, only one of them has a UMHB parking sticker. This sticker was issued at registration; it is one of the many hidden fees that are added into tuition. I sometimes drive different vehicles to campus. When I drive different vehicles, I have to go to campus police to get a temporary parking permit. However, I do have the option to purchase a sticker for each vehicle, if I want to pay fifteen dollars for each sticker. Another parking issue is that vehicles cannot be pulled through or backed into a parking space. Neither backing into a parking space, nor pulling forward into a parking space causes any safety or security problems. Does it really matter if the rear of the vehicles is facing the outside row? Rules and regulations have their place, but some are just ridiculous.
First, parking on campus needs improving. . Baton Rouge community college needs to expand their parking lot because it be complicated trying to find a parking spot on campus. With every new freshmen students that’s just coming out of high school is taking up most of the parking spaces. I believe parking passes should be free for students because students have to park sometimes in Mc Donald parking lot because they don’t have no other choice. Also there needs to be additional parking on campus and also for those that are visiting the campus. The parking lots have also plenty of pot holes that can damage student car and can cause a flat tire. If a student hit another student car it’s hard to find out who did it because there isn’t enough policemen out in the parking lots looking. Brittany
Parking on campus needs improving. Students entering the university are allowed to have a car on campus. With every new freshmen class entering parking posses a problem on campus. The campus is already limited in its parking on campus and since freshmen are allowed to have cars, the students before them are faced with the dilemma of how many new freshmen will be bringing a car to school.

Issues with Parking on Campus Have you ever had issues with parking on campus? Were you given a ticket? If so, many other students and myself across the nation have experienced the same thing. Many of times, students are not as fortunate to park in a parking lot or deck simply because there is no room or space available, so what are some ways that this matter can be resolved? To begin this essay, we are prompted with the question “What should be done to improve the parking on UNA’s campus?”.
It is hard to find parking on campus, especially during rush hours. Both students and professors are encountering trouble for this crisis. As a simple example, the parking lot next to the Sarkeys building is always full. This problem is a continuous, daily hazard. As a student required to maintain a lot of class schedules and activities, I suffer from the parking problem daily and find that others encounter the same. It is true that the university is working on a new parking garage, but during the construction process, there is no alternative way to settle the crisis. The official home page of OU parking and transportation services is a source to consider for exploring the problem.
The problem with LimeBike at California State University of Northridge is that students are parking their bikes at the end of their rides on undesignated areas. Some of the places students are parking the bikes are residential areas, people’s lawns, and left in the middle of parking structures. One of the school’s residential neighbors Randy Finnerman noted that the bikes are dropped off on his property daily. Randy mentioned, “One time someone left their bike in the middle of my driveway. I had to pick it up and throw it to the curb.
looking for a parking space, and waiting in line. There are many ways to save time and
When students get back to school after going home for the weekend, their biggest worry is not being able to find a parking spot. Especially when they have only a few minutes to get to their first class and the parking lot is to capacity. Nobody wants to start out their week with a parking ticket, so they spend a lot of their time circling the parking lot just hoping that they will either catch someone backing out or they find a parking spot that is hidden between all of the cars that are spaciously parked on the gravel.
2. Punctuality problem is one of the major problems faced by the UTAR staff. Most of the reasons that cause punctuality are limited car parks. Although there has a system that only the people who have successfully bided for car sticker can enter into UTAR for parking, the problem of parking spaces still existed. The demands of students whose transportations are cars in UTAR are more than the parking spaces that UTAR has. UTAR can try to expand more spaces for parking but it seems it is difficult to achieve, another way is improve the public transportations which provide students convenience with a lower price and save petrol and save time from finding a parking space.
