A/N: I don't own The Outsiders. S.E. Hinton does. I also don't own the idea, it was requested to me by the wonderful Amanda. Thank you so much! I hope I did this idea justice. Enjoy, y'all! Cap and Gown "You ready to go, Ponyboy?" The teenager emerged from his room in black dress pants, a white shirt and tie. He had on his crimson cap on and his gown folded over his arm. "Ready, Dar." Darry couldn't believe this moment was finally here. His little brother was graduating at the young age of sixteen-going-on-seventeen. Darry couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as he looked at his little brother, all grown up, siting in the back seat. If Darry squinted he could still see the thin little kid he used to know, but when he opened …show more content…
"But the most important lesson I learned didn't come from a textbook. It came from my two older brothers. Especially Darry, who taught me the value of hard work and pushed me to become the best person I could be. He's the reason I'm up here." Darry didn't know how to react, he felt nothing but love and happiness for the man his brother had become. After the ceremony was over, Ponyboy ran over to where his brothers and friends waited. Surprisingly, the first person he ran to and hugged was Darry. "You did us real proud, kiddo. I'm real proud of you," Darry told him. "You did dad proud. Thank you, Darry," was Ponyboy's surprising response as the two brothers pulled away from their hug. "Good job, kiddo!" Soda exclaimed, giving Ponyboy his own hug. Ponyboy's face broke out into a wide grin. "Thanks, Soda." From here on out, nothing could stop him. Ponyboy had finally done it; he graduated. He had his entire life ahead of him, all thanks to the one man who had given up everything to give him the opportunity to get out of Tulsa. He hadn't appreciated him when he was younger, but looking back now with a more mature set of eyes, the young man knew how much his older brother had given up for
Darry is really sensible when it comes to Ponyboy because from the perspective of a reader you would think he's such a bad brother because he hits Ponyboy and is always strict and scolds him it's all out of the love for him so he does not turn out a bad kid like Dally and you could see in the quote that Dally was sincere for his actions. When Ponyboy got hurt badly from the church fire when he came back he stated “Suddenly I realized, horrified, there were tears running down Darry’s cheeks, he didn't make a sound but tears were running down his cheeks.” (page 98) This shows that behind the scolding and being strict Darry was so sad and worried for Ponyboy and his emotions got out when he saw him all bandaged up and in the hospital. To follow up on that, Darry states “Oh Pony, I thought we lost you like mom and dad.” (Page 98) This is a huge quote because Darry thought Ponyboy died and he got really sad because of that and he thought his youngest brother and his parents died and if that did happen
It had been 5 years since the death of Johnny and Dally and everyday I miss them more and more. I am 18 now and about to leave to start my first year of college. I have still been living with my brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry is now 25 and Soda is now 22. Things have been a little different ever since we won the rumble that night. I remember it like it was yesterday. But the difference is now the greasers and Socs are not really a thing anymore. Darry, Soda and I have kinda lose touch with Two-Bit, Steve and Cherry. But we all still think and talk about them everyday.(I mostly talk about Cherry.) When we see the Socs wondering the streets we don't go over and try to pick a fight anymore. We either smile and wave, it's like we're all one big friendly neighborhood.
the beginning of the book chapter 1 Ponyboy went to the movies alone on the way home some greasers jump him and in the right moment his group members save him from getting beat.
Dally did something to save one of his gang members too. It was Dally who pulled Johnny out from the burning church. Johnny would have died instantly if Dally did not get Johnny out of the church. When Dally was shot, Ponyboy remembered the things Dally had done for them.
He loves them dearly and could not possibly part with them. “‘We‘re all we got left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything. If we don‘t have each other, we don‘t have anything (176).” This shows that they all come from a neglectful background, but still manage to care for each other like a real family. The whole gang knows that they will always be there for one another.“I had taken the long way around, but I was finally home. To stay (99).” This explains that Ponyboy is feels safe at home with his two brothers and knows they will care for him. This also conveys that it does not matter where he is, as long as he is with his brothers, he will always feel at
There are much more important ideas about your life and how or what you do. One of the key is do not be involved with a bad situation. Do not judge people of how they look. There could be people who looks dirty but is not mean and others that wears nice clothes but is rude like an example from sentence 3. In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, people judge the greasers being mean because of how they look but are not that mean and the Socs of how people believe they are amazing people because of how they look but get into trouble. Nothing will change if you want to change it or not and that is one of the most important theme because people wants to make the difference.
“Since Mom and Dad were killed in an auto wreck, the three of us get to stay together only as long as we behave (2).” This explains why Ponyboy, Dally and Sodapop did not have parents. In the novel, this really effected their life and character. "…It was Darry. He hit me. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't take him hollering at me and hitting me too... He didn't use to be like that... we used to get along okay... before Mom and Dad died. Now he just can't stand me (2)." This shows that not having their parents anymore effected Darry’s character and how he treated Ponyboy, which in return effected how Ponyboy felt about himself in comparison to how he was treated. This illustrates that Ponyboy believes that Darry picks on him all the time. This shows that Darry was like a caring parent in a tough way,
Dally was hard, but this incident would eventually change him for the better. The only thing Dally loved, Johnny, gave Ponyboy words of advice for Dally, “Listen,
team and had gotten an athletic scholarship however he couldn't accept it and now works to keep his brothers living. Another reason why he gave up his education for his brothers is that it is a lot of work for his age, it says this in chapter one in the same paragraph as the one where they talk about him giving up his education for his brothers, it says that Darry didn't deserve to work like an old man when he was twenty and that he works hard just to keep his brothers afloat. Another place where it shows that he has a lot of responsibility is in chapter 3 when Ponyboy returns home and Darry is still up reading the newspaper, staying up and waiting for Ponyboy when he still has work tomorrow. Another reason why he is giving up his education in order to keep his brothers safe was he has to work 2 jobs
In the days leading up to her graduation, she was so excited about receiving her diploma for her academic accomplishments, even though she hasn’t accomplished a lot in life by experiencing a little bit of it. She felt like the birthday girl with her pretty dress, beautiful hair, and the presents she received from Uncle Willie and her mother. She felt like it w...
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton themes of growing up and innocence are shown. Ponyboy is not your average 14 year old he is part of a gang known to many as the Greasers. He encounters many situations testing his values and beliefs. Having lost both his parents recently he and his brothers stick together like a true family but this relationship is tested when Darry hits Ponyboy. He also experiences the loss several close friends in a very short period of time. Throughout this novel, Ponyboy encounters many life changing experiences that prove he is a dynamic character.
Ponyboy should be allowed to stay with his brothers because they care for each other. “Where were you ponyboy?-his voice was rising-”Where in the almighty universe were you?” (Hinton 49). This quote shows that even if Darry might not like Ponyboy so much they still look out for each other. They also show that they give him expectations but he doesn’t really listen to them and that’s his problem. If he had done what Darry said, then there wouldn’t be any trouble for him. Of course Ponyboy should be able to live with his brothers because he doesn’t need to, he has everything he needs to live. “Darry had cooked dinner:baked chicken and potatoes and corn- two chickens because
“Yes I did because you deserve it,each of your brothers got there own car and so do you.Ellie you lifted the family up when your father died and I can’t thank you enough.”
Later in the year, Blake was notified that he was chosen as a recipient for one of the Make A Wish Foundation wishes. By then he knew he had a life-threatening illness, and that his wish -a trip to Disney World- may be one of his final memories with his family. He was so enthusiastic to fly on an airplane as he headed to Disney World with his mom, sister, and grandparents. It would be his first time flying. The entire week he was gone, I had to discover other ways to entertain myself. There were numerous occasions I was itching to tell him about.
My high school graduation was one of the saddest moments of my life. Although I was excited about graduating, I did not know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. In Maya Angelou’s “Graduation,” Angelou was excited and proud of all that she had accomplished. In Flannery O’Connor’s “A Late Encounter With the Enemy,” Sally Poker Sash was proud that she was finally graduating and just wanted to show that off to all the “upstarts”. In the two readings the pupils are contrasting in a few different areas, and a couple of those areas are in pride and feelings that their families have being involved in the graduation.
