The Outsiders In the book, “The Outsiders” author S.E. Hinton tells a dramatic story through the eyes of the main character, Ponyboy Curtis. This book took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. Ponyboy Curtis and his older brothers Sodapop and Darry live in the east part of town and are referred to as “Greasers” . The Greasers are in continual conflict with the rich kids who live on the west side of town, who are called the “Socs”. Since Ponyboy’s parents died, his older brother Darry takes care of Soda and him. The Greasers are almost like hoodlums, and they usually do not do well in school. When they arrived there, the only other people that were there was two girls. Ponyboy and his friend Johnny start to talk to the girls and they find out the girls are Socs. The girl’s names were Cherry and Marcia. While Ponyboy and Cherry were at the concession stands, Ponyboy tells the story of how Johnny was beaten up by Socs that were driving a blue Mustang. One of the Socs had rings on his fingers and hit Johnny so hard it left a scar on his face. After the movie, Ponyboy his friends and the girls decide to walk home together. Then a blue Mustang showed up and two Socs came out. One of them had three heavy rings on his hand. An argument started after the girls accused the Socs of always getting drunk. The girls eventually ended up going home with the Socs. When Johnny and Ponyboy were alone, they accidently fell asleep in a vacant lot. When Ponyboy finally he realized he followed a sleep for quite sometime and he raced home. His oldest brother Darry was waiting for him. They got into a heated argument and then Darry became very angry and slapped Ponyboy. Ponyboy then ran away to Johnny (he was still in the lot asleep) and they walked to the park just to cool off. Then the blue Mustang showed up with four Socs in it. They became angry because Ponyboy and Johnny picked up there girls. Then one Soc forced Ponyboy in a fountain full of water. Ponyboy and Johnny were in the paper as they were wanted by the police. When they went back to the church they discovered it was on fire. They realized there were children trapped in the church. Ponyboy and Johnny went to save them. They got all of them out but, a large beam that was ablaze fell on Johnny’s back. Ponyboy was on fire and Dallas hit him in the back in attempt to get the fire out. Ponyboy fell and was unconscious. When he woke up, he went straight to the hospital where his brothers and friends were there to meet them. They were so happy to see each other again. But Johnny was in critical condition. His back broke and if he lived he would probably be paralyzed for the rest of his life. After that Ponyboy headed home. When he saw the paper it said Johnny and Ponyboy were heroes. Even Though Ponyboy was injured from the fire and Johnny was in the hospital the rumble between the Socs and the Greasers was still going to go as planned. The Socs usually win so they are confident they will win this time. The next day the rumble started. When they all lined up Darry volunteered to fight first. The Greasers all fought hard and they won. Right after they won Ponyboy and Dallas went to go see Johnny. Johnny was in bad condition. Ase they were talking to him Johnny died. But you have a choice about how you view it.” This quote means you can choose how you view people and things.This relates to the Outsiders because the novel is about how you choose to view people. The Outsiders is about how people shouldn’t judge others based on stereotypes and they should get to know them first.
Then the Bell boys go to the rec center, JB goes of with Miss Sweet Tea and Josh plays a one on one game with his dad. Josh is beating him, and then Mr.Bell steals the ball and tries to show off to the people watching and tries to dunk but before he does. He got a heart attack he collapsed of the court and JB splashed his face. Josh remembered the cpr lesson in PE and tried it. No pulse. Mr.Bell went into a coma everyone was devastated, but it didn't last for long he woke up the day of christmas eve. They had a little family reunion in the hospital room but Mr.Bell had to stay in the hospital for a while. The day of the championship game, the Bell family(minus Mr.Bell) were going to start to go to the game, when a call comes that their father had another heart attack. Mrs.Bell leaves to the hospital and tells the boys to go to the game. JB doesn't want to and follows his mother to the hospital on bike. Josh thinks that his father would want him to play so he goes to the game. During the final 5 minutes JB shows up in the bleachers sobbing. Josh keeps playing till the final second, sobbing as well. In the book The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy, along with his brothers and friends, has to face the daily struggles of being a greaser among the Socs. This fiction book focused on Ponyboy’s life and the problems he ran into with the Socs. He and his gang of friends had fights with the Socs that happened often, and had to deal with a Soc being killed by one of the Greasers, though it was an act of self defense. The three topics addressed in this intriguing novel are the fight between rich and poor, the power of friendship, and what it means to be a hero.
The Hardy boys, Frank and Joe, were driving down Shore Road and they heard a report about a stolen car. Frank and Joe raced towards the scene and saw the stolen car. Suddenly, a big red produce truck came right into the middle of the road. The boys had to slam on their brakes. They crashed into a fence and were dazed but not hurt The driver came out of the truck and said he was sorry. Frank thought something was fishy about the guy. They both went home and tried not to let their mother see all their cuts and bruises.
Right/Wrong: I was actually half right on this prediction. Johnny and Ponyboy were walking in the park and got jumped by five socs. Then Ponyboy spit in his face and started to get shoved into the pond in the park. After that, Johnny went and stabbed the soc who was drowning Pony and he died. On an attempt to escape and not get in trouble, they went to Dally and he helped them a lot. He gave them money and a gun to escape for a week or two so the story would die down. The two boys are now hiding at an abandoned church.

Along with themes of identity and social division, the author uses characters from the novel, both protagonists and antagonists, to provide a balanced reflection of the real-life situations in mid-twentieth century America and in today’s society. The mental differences between the classes, the misjudgement of self-worth, and the Greasers’ difficulty to understand the Socs demonstrate issues within the real teenager society.
The Outsiders focuses on the life of Ponyboy Curtis who has two brothers, Darry and Sodapop, which belong to a group of young people that were called greasers. The Greasers defined as a group of hoodlums with a background of being poor, mean, and violent. Ponyboy’s brother, Darry, stepped in to support his family after their parents died in an automobile accident. Darry was a smart and serious person that worked most of the time, and was very hard on Ponyboy .He often yelled at Ponyboy to do better in school. Soda, the middle brother considered very handsome and likeable, was happy most of the time. The brothers often fought over Ponyboy’s future. They closely associated with two members of the greasers, Dally who was one of the oldest gang members and certainly the toughest, and Johnny who was shyer than Ponyboy. Dally seemed to enjoy being a criminal and thought the law was a joke. Johnny’s parents abused him, so he always seemed scared which made him the pet of the group.
One day after school Ponyboy and his friend Johnny took two Soc girls out to the movies, they were walking home when five Socs jumped them. The Socs were mad at them for taking their girls on dates. Bob (one of the Socs) was about to drown Ponyboy in a fountain when Johnny lost it and stabbed him. The Socs ran and so did Johnny and Ponyboy. After this incident they ran to a church outside of town. One day the church catches on fire.
On the first week at Grandma’s, a man named Shotgun Cheatman died. Everyone in the town went to the funeral because he was the well known assistant to the Mayor. The funeral was held in Grandma’s house and a creepy thing happened that night when Tom the cat crawled inside the casket. The next day, Joey, Mary Alice and Grandma left the house and walked across fields of tall grass and “cow pies aplenty” to Salt Creek to go fishing. They found an old wooden boat and Grandma rowed the boat out into the creek. While on their fishing adventure, they encountered a cottonmouth snake that fell into the boat and a party of drunken men on land dancing in their underwear.
Pony and Johnny go see Dallas, who tells them to jump a train out of town and hide out in an abandoned church. He gives them some money. The two boys follow his instructions and spend five days in the church. Dallas shows up on the fifth day, and takes them out to eat. When they get back to the church, it’s on fire, and a bunch of school children are trapped inside. Pony and Johnny rush in and save all the little kids. But a piece of burning timber falls on Johnny, and Pony is knocked unconscious by Dallas (who was putting out the fire on his back).
In the beginning Ponyboy Curtis is attacked by the Socs and is being threaten to slit his throat and then the Greasers come and scare away the Socs to save Ponyboy. The next night Ponyboy and Johnny go to a movie with Dally, they sit behind a pair of attractive girls. Dally flirts with them offensively and then Johnny stands up and tells him to stop harassing them. Dally walks away with rage and then Johnny and Ponyboy sit with the girls. Two-Bit arrives with 3 other Greasers to walk home the Soc girls. On the way Randy and Bob the drunken boyfriends meet the Greasers. They girls leave the Greasers and get in the Socs’s car to prevent a fight. Ponyboy is late getting home, so his brother Darrel is furious with him, Ponyboy sick of Darrel’s constant criticism and enquiry, Ponyboy yells back at him. The brothers have a furious argument and Darrel slaps Ponyboy across the face. Ponyboy runs away with Johnny, they encounter Randy and Bob at the park. The Socs attack Ponyboy and Johnny, They hold Ponyboy’s head underwater until Ponyboy blacks out. Ponyboy regains consciousness and finds him lying on the ground. Johnny is beside him and next to Bob’s corpse, Johnny tells Ponyboy that he stabbed Bob because they were drowning you.

The girl groans and puts her arms over her ribcage, then quietly says, “I’m here to protect Tohru.” For a moment, both boys look confused. Then the orange hair boy says, “Then why was she CRYING!?” The girl stands up, still holding her ribs, and tells him, “She was crying BEFORE I got here. She wanted to be friends!” At this, neither boy looked too surprised. Silver looks over at Orange and says, “That does seem like something Miss Honda would do. Maybe she is telling the truth.” Orange still doesn’t fully believe her story and says back to Silver, “Yeah, and maybe she’s not telling the truth.” Trying to reassure the boys, the girl tells them “I am telling the truth. I was chasing something but it got away. I came in here to make sure she was safe.” At this, Silver decides that her story is believable.

Eddie thought that he had finally got a break when he was given an opportunity for a job, but there was a problem, he needed a specific uniform in order to get the job. Sally, Tommy, and Eddie decided that they needed to do whatever they could to get the money for Eddie so that he could get the job and make money for the three of them. While panhandling, Eddie was approached by two men who said that they would give him five dollars if he delivered a note to a woman working the ticket booth in the movie theater. Eddie agreed, hoping that it would be enough money to pay for the uniform. What he didn’t know was that the note was the men’s way of trying to rob the theater. Eddie runs when the woman screams, but is caught by the cops. Tommy and Sally tried defending him and were brought down to the police station as well. The trick that the men played on Eddie showed that during this time crime was a huge factor in society in order to have enough or some money to live off
