The Outsiders In the book, “The Outsiders” author S.E. Hinton tells a dramatic story through the eyes of the main character, Ponyboy Curtis. This book took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. Ponyboy Curtis and his older brothers Sodapop and Darry live in the east part of town and are referred to as “Greasers” . The Greasers are in continual conflict with the rich kids who live on the west side of town, who are called the “Socs”. Since Ponyboy’s parents died, his older brother Darry takes care of Soda and him. The Greasers are almost like hoodlums, and they usually do not do well in school. But Ponyboy and Darry are both intelligent and have done well in school. Darry had the opportunity to go to college, but was not able to because he had to …show more content…

When they arrived there, the only other people that were there was two girls. Ponyboy and his friend Johnny start to talk to the girls and they find out the girls are Socs. The girl’s names were Cherry and Marcia. While Ponyboy and Cherry were at the concession stands, Ponyboy tells the story of how Johnny was beaten up by Socs that were driving a blue Mustang. One of the Socs had rings on his fingers and hit Johnny so hard it left a scar on his face. After the movie, Ponyboy his friends and the girls decide to walk home together. Then a blue Mustang showed up and two Socs came out. One of them had three heavy rings on his hand. An argument started after the girls accused the Socs of always getting drunk. The girls eventually ended up going home with the Socs. When Johnny and Ponyboy were alone, they accidently fell asleep in a vacant lot. When Ponyboy finally he realized he followed a sleep for quite sometime and he raced home. His oldest brother Darry was waiting for him. They got into a heated argument and then Darry became very angry and slapped Ponyboy. Ponyboy then ran away to Johnny (he was still in the lot asleep) and they walked to the park just to cool off. Then the blue Mustang showed up with four Socs in it. They became angry because Ponyboy and Johnny picked up there girls. Then one Soc forced Ponyboy in a fountain full of water. Ponyboy and Johnny were in the paper as they were wanted by the police. When they went back to the church they discovered it was on fire. They realized there were children trapped in the church. Ponyboy and Johnny went to save them. They got all of them out but, a large beam that was ablaze fell on Johnny’s back. Ponyboy was on fire and Dallas hit him in the back in attempt to get the fire out. Ponyboy fell and was unconscious. When he woke up, he went straight to the hospital where his brothers and friends were there to meet them. They were so happy to see each other again. But Johnny was in critical condition. His back broke and if he lived he would probably be paralyzed for the rest of his life. After that Ponyboy headed home. When he saw the paper it said Johnny and Ponyboy were heroes. Even Though Ponyboy was injured from the fire and Johnny was in the hospital the rumble between the Socs and the Greasers was still going to go as planned. The Socs usually win so they are confident they will win this time. The next day the rumble started. When they all lined up Darry volunteered to fight first. The Greasers all fought hard and they won. Right after they won Ponyboy and Dallas went to go see Johnny. Johnny was in bad condition. Ase they were talking to him Johnny died. His last words were, “Stay gold Ponyboy”. Dallas couldn’t take this and he ran off. Once Ponyboy had told the news to everyone,
