Healthcare professionals work to serve the community and provide good quality care. A high standard of patient-centred care is achieved through the amalgamation of the central values of an Integrated Health Professional (IHP) (Olckers, Gibbs, Duncan 2007:2). Through a family member’s experience with a healthcare professional I have personally learnt the importance of becoming an IHP which will be discussed further. The IHP Framework: The IHP Framework is a model that outlines the core concepts of becoming a competent health professional. The IHP framework is used to develop one’s self as a health professional that is not only knowledgeable and skilled in their field of work but is equally empathetic and reflective, allowing care to be provided to all patients with respect, responsibility and the highest standard of ethics. This all-encompassing approach to health allows for constant growth and improvement by encouraging an awareness of self through reflection. It guides students to a deeper understanding of professionalism and its dimensions in their specific work environment by focusing on integrating the three central components: the knowing; empathic and reflective. The IHP framework creates a balanced foundation of professionalism on which life-long learning and improvement is nurtured. (Olckers, Gibbs, Duncan 2007:2) Knowing Dimension: The knowing dimension focuses on gaining the relevant information and understanding of healthcare as well as the skills needed to provide it. The titanic was a gigantic ship. It was the biggest, newest, and advanced ship during its time. The titanic was built in Belfast with the newest and best technology. Then after its completion it would travel to New York. During the tragedy of the Titanic the engineers had a key role on saving people. Although the tragedy of the titanic was sad it taught us many lessons on preventing such a thing again. Although the titanic has sunk to the bottom of the ocean it will never be forgotten.
The World Health Organization (2010) defines interprofessional collaboration in health care as occurring “when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds provide comprehensive services by working with patients, their families, carers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care across settings” (p. 7) and IPE as occurring “when two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” (p. 7). Interprofessional collaboration is contingent on IPE; education promotes collaborative patient-centered care by strengthening communication skills and teamwork. I find the story of the RMS Titanic very intriguing. Most everybody knows when it happened or how it happened, but very few people get to know the stories of the people that were passengers on the ill-fated ship. I was very lucky with the resources that I got, because most of them had quotes from the survivors. When reading the quotes, I got chills. I could picture myself in that freezing water or seeing my best friend or brother for the last time. The sinking of the RMS Titanic was a very sad ending of what was supposed to be a fairy-tale, and we can only hope that nothing like this happens ever again.
They were told “This is the Titanic, the unsinkable ship,” but what were they saying as the ship broke in two and began to sink. Did they all still believe that nothing could sink the magnificent Titanic? Or was the reality of the ship finally “sinking” in? These are questions today that people are still asking. The sinking of the Titanic was a tragic accident that still affects culture today.
This essay witnesses my personal learning and teaching style and strategy. I aim to set forth the aspects of teaching and learning that I find help me become a better health care professional. Three of the major learning theories are discussed in order to find the skill sets that each bring to the table. By choosing the skills required in a clinical environment we can pick the required strategy accordingly. I believe that a unique combination of the tree theories where each is able to play to its strength and overshadow its weaknesses is the best teaching-learning strategy.

Millions of people have heard about the massive ship that claimed to be ¨unsinkable¨ (Callery 14). The ship exploded with excitement and hope for the passengers. Travelers from various different lifestyles and incomes came together for one purpose, to glide across the ocean one wave at a time. Passengers onboard the Titanic had no idea what they would encounter or the fame that would come out of this already famous ship. No one expected the tragedy that would take place in the middle of the ocean. The structure, passengers, and the sinking of the Titanic made it one of the most famous ships of the twentieth century.
Counseling skills has provided me with a valuable insight into the helping relationship and how it is both created and maintained in order to encourage growth and development in the client. The factors involved within the helping relationship include considering Roger’s core conditions, congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy as the three main characteristics necessary in a helping relationship. In order to fully incorporate all three of Roger’s core conditions, I as the counselor must be self-aware, as a lack of self-awareness may inhibit truly listening and understanding the client; self-awareness can be enhanced through exercises such as Johari’s window. Counseling skills such as body language and active listening also plays a role within encouraging the client to open up and can help me as the counselor convey empathy.
When I started this Master of Public Health (MPH), I had great expectations, and I knew that I had to do it because it would help me progress as a health care professional (Roehampton-online.com, 2015). I was coming in with an experience both as an International Volunteer Leader in a Relief Organization for the past 20 years and with an experience in health care as a visiting nurse, additionally being the president of the Staff Committee. The Module One of the MPH has helped me tremendously in bringing together both angles of experience and showed me how to blend them in order to improve my leadership and feel more secure in both my roles as it is very important to be confident while leading (Barron Stark, 2012).
Numerous people enter counseling since they are experiencing tremendous heartache and disappointment. And several are feeling conquered by life occurrences. There are married couples who frequently encounter relationships issues. Then, there are parents who undergo crisis with their children or family members, and of course millions of individuals are faced with mental health issues, along with substance abuse problems that are tearing their family apart.
I think it is important that I clarify my own values to ensure that my care is client-centered. Self- reflection during care is also fundamental as it makes me aware of my actions and whether they are establishing a therapeutic relationship or doing the opposite.. Finally, I need to learn to be more empathetic towards my patient’s situations by being interactive, gaining insight and avoid being focused on the task and more on being with the situation. The story of the Titanic was told long before the ocean liner was even a thought. Fourteen years prior to the sinking of the Titanic, Morgan Robertson wrote a book called The Wreck of the Titan. In his book, a passenger ship called Titan set sail from England and was headed to New York loaded with first class passengers and luxurious items. The Titan hits an iceberg in the North Atlantic, causing the ship to sink and the passengers to panic. The lack of lifeboats and life jackets on the Titan lead to the loss of many lives. Morgan Robertson’s book would predict the fate of the great ocean liner, the Titanic, fourteen years after.
