While men were rewarded for sexual prowess, on the other hand women suffered from a damaged reputation. Birth control gave women the opportunity to choose to deter pregnancy, this pill was introduced in the 1906. People did not agree with birth control pills, after this there was no national standard on abortion regulations, and many states had outlawed the practice, this led to many women to seek black market abortions by unlicensed physicians or to brutally perform the procedure on themselves. (www.us.history.org). Women should be able to anything they want with their own body, of it does not concern or have to do with the other person, it should be no one’s business, if men can do it why shouldn’t women be able to do it also? Yes, it’s not ideal to be doing this sort of thing, but it’s all up to the woman to do what she wants with her body. in 1994, Congress enacted the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which responded to the inadequacies of state justice systems in dealing with violent crimes against women. The Feminist movement is not just one subject it ties up everything women have fought for and are fighting for. Without these women fighting for us we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thanks to women such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton we wouldn 't have the same rights as mean and be treated equally. This movement made history and it’s still making history until this very day. Not many people know what women went through to get where we are today, they don 't know about all the struggles activist went through to get
I, Susan B. Anthony, am a transcendentalists and women’s right activist. I was raised in a family where everyone was politically active. My family was active in the abolitionist movement and also the temperance movement. When I was campaigning what the temperance movement it inspired me to fight for women’s rights. The reason being is because when I attended a temperance convention I was denied the right to speak because I was a women. I was infuriated by this. I also realized that if women didn’t earn the right to vote no one would take any women seriously where politics were involved. So i founded the National Women Suffrage Association with activist Elizabeth Stanton. Then I began speaking and protesting all round america. In 1872 I even
Today, women and men have equal rights, however not long ago men believed women were lower than them. During the late eighteenth century, men expected women to stay at home and raise children. Women were given very few opportunities to expand their education past high school because colleges and universities would not accept females. This was a loss for women everywhere because it took away positions of power for them. It was even frowned upon if a woman showed interest in medicine or law because that was a man 's place not a woman’s, just like it was a man 's duty to vote and not a woman 's. The road to women 's right was long and hard, but many women helped push the right to vote, the one that was at the front of that group was Susan B. Anthony.
Susan B. Anthony is a one of a kind lady. She didn’t care what people thought of her. She wanted to show the world what she believed in. Susan B. Anthony played a major role in women’s suffrage by being involved in temperance movements when she was young, being a part of the National Woman Suffrage Association and the Nineteenth Amendment was passed fourteen years after her death.
Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Women's Rights. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton met in March 1851, the two women not only developed a deep friendship but also helped each other prepare to change women's rights forever. Together they formed one of the most productive working partnerships in U.S. history. As uncompromising women's rights leaders, they revolutionized the political and social condition for women in American society. Stanton was the leading voice and philosopher of the women's rights and suffrage movements while Anthony was the inspiration who was able to gain control of the legions of women.
Susan B. Anthony was a prominent women’s rights activist and a social reformer. She dedicated her life to spread awareness of the danger and unfairness of social inequalities and slavery. She helped creating or advocating many US and International organizations. She lobbied the creation of laws to protect the rights of citizens regardless of their ethnicity or gender. She was "one of the most loved and hated women in the country. "Her opponents often described her as "nsexed, an unnatural creature that did not function as a true woman, one who devoted her life to a husband” (Barry). She passed away
...re and an American hero she devoted her life to working towards equal rights for all women. Through writing, speaking, and campaigning, Anthony and her supporters brought about change in the United States government and gave women the important voice that they had always been denied. Any study of feminism or women’s history would be incomplete without learning about her. She fought for her beliefs for 50 years and led the way for women to be granted rights as citizens of their country, Thanks to Anthony’s persistence, several years after her death, in 1920 women were given the right by the Nineteenth Amendment of the Constitution. I do believe she was the key figure in women getting the right to vote. “She will forever stand alone and unapproached, her fame continually increasing as evolution lifts humanity into higher appreciation of justice and liberty.”
Whereas the women’s suffrage movements focused mainly on overturning legal obstacles to equality, the feminist movements successfully addressed a broad range of other feminist issues. The first dealt primarily with voting rights and the latter dealt with inequalities such as equal pay and reproductive rights. Both movements made vast gains to the social and legal status of women. One reached its goals while the other continues to fight for women’s rights.
Jane Addams, Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. These women lived at the turn of the century, and fought vehemently for a cause they believed in. They knew that they were being discriminated against because of their gender, and they refused to take it. These pioneers of feminism paved the road for further reform, and changed the very fabric of our society.
Susan B. Anthony was important to the feminist movement because she transformed America. She was an abolitionist who helped free all African Americans within the country. She was an educational and labor reformer which allowed young girls to learn and lessen the wage gap between male and female teacher. Also, a temperance activist, who defended women who were being abused by their intoxicated husbands. Lastly, she was an activist for woman suffrage, who used her morals and skills to fight for equality. Without her contributions to the Antislavery, Temperance and the Women’s Rights movements, African American could still be enslaved and women would still have no voice and no protection against domestic violence. Susan B. Anthony is recognized in the United States as a Historical Feminist. Ms. Anthony historical impact has influence some states to legally recognized February 15 as Susan B. Anthony Day however, this day is still a national American observance. On Susan B. Anthony Day tributes are made and memorial services are held at her grave site in Rochester, New York and in Washington, DC. I would propose that all states legally observed Susan B. Anthony Day as a thank you for all she has done in transforming American. Also, for us Americans can be reminded of how far we have come and to continue to take steps forwards instead of
This feminism movement occurred at the same time as the Civil Rights movement and both had an impact on each other. The Civil Rights movement fought for equality of African Americans. Many of the feminism activist and the feminism organizations also rallied support for the Civil Rights movement. It was with this support that the feminism movement was able to piggy back off its success. The original Civil Rights Act had no protection against discrimination based on sex, only based on race, but feminists lobbied vigorously for this addition to the act (Article 4). Many male African Americans feared that this addition to the bill would kill it entirely but women like Pauli Murray, who “coined the term Jane Crow to describe her own experience of
Social movements refer to informal groups of people who focus on either political or social issues. The goal of the social movement is to change things in society, to refuse to go along with the norm, and to undo a social change. For example, the Women’s Rights Movement that began in the 1840s was geared towards getting women more equality in relation to political, social, and economic status in society (Foner). Along with this, women gained a louder voice to speak out about what they wanted to change and implemented the change. Prior to the Women’s Rights Movement, women were often timid, compliant, obedient, and mistreated. After the 1920s, a movement towards more equality was shifted in society views, however not all were convinced or changed by the new ideas of women. Although women began to get increased rights, the typical gender roles, which they were expected to follow did not loosely lesson. Women still found themselves doing the same gender roles, house roles, and family roles even after the 1920s. It was not until the 1960s when the Feminist movement began (Foner). The literary piece is “Why I Want a Wife” by Judy Brady and the goal of the Feminist Movement was to create new meanings and realities for women in terms of education, empowerment, occupation, sexual identity, art, and societal roles. In short, the Feminist Movement was aimed to gain women freedom, equal opportunity and be in control over their own life.
Susan B. Anthony was an activist for the Women’s Rights Movement. As a child, she was raised to be independent and outspoken. As a leader, she did just that. She stood up for what she believed in. Anthony organized, traveled, and spoke to people about what needed to be modified for women. Her parents were Quakers, which is a branch of christianity. They believed that all men and women should study, work, and live as equals (“Biography of Susan B. Anthony”). She adopted these thoughts and became a leader of the movement for women. She recognized her passion for women’s rights and dedicated her life as a suffragette, an advocate of women’s right to vote (“Biography of Susan B. Anthony”). A meeting with Elizabeth Cady Stanton led to lifelong friends in political organizing for women’s rights and women’s
The feminist movement helped earn women the right to vote, but even then, it wasn’t enough to get accepted into the workforce. They were given the strength to fight the journey for equality and social justice. There has been known to be three waves of feminism, each wave fighting for a different issue concerning women’s rights. Laws protecting sexual assault and alimony would be enacted, and women were now allowed custody of their children in divorce cases.
When i used to hear the word Feminism all i thought about was women and groups of women fight for what they believe is equality and that they should be equal to men which some part i was right. If you go back to the late 18 century , Feminism primarily was a social movement for the emancipation of women. To gain equal right which was called the women's movement in the 18 century.
...rkforce, balancing their social life and the right to own property. Without the 19th amendment being enacted, granting women to vote, they would not have any influence in political decisions today. The choice to hold political seats is now their right. A recent example can be seen through Hillary Clinton, who was a candidate for a presidential election in 2008. Women are now on a path to seek advanced degrees in comparison to the past. They are also holding higher positions within the workforce. There has been an incline in women working within various fields. Today a woman can choose to be an athlete, astronaut, surgeon, engineer, scientist, or any other career field of her choice. Women are now contributing income within the family household. The course for feminism is now in an endless path, moving quickly in the direction to obtain equality for all.
