Bernard Roth, an Academic Director at Stanford University says, “Getting to know someone can take somewhere around forever. People are always changing and evolving for both good and bad, and we are all capable of renovation” (18). If students are able to change a bad habit, such as procrastinating, and change it into something better, such as avoiding procrastination, the outcome can be a process that is beneficial and used throughout life. So much time is wasted with procrastinating. Procrastinating and putting assignments off until the last minute only allows room for mistakes. This will make accomplishing assignments less demanding. When an assignment is less demanding it makes procrastination impossible. Some students get overwhelmed with the amount of homework they have. When a student decides how much time to spend on each section of the assignment it makes getting the assignment done a lot easier. Once it is decided how long to work for, students should schedule when to take a break and for how long. Getting to the break may seem like an accomplishment in itself. When a student assigns a portion of the assignment to do each day it will break the assignment down and grant more time to work on the assignment. It will also take the stress off of doing the assignment all at once. Prioritizing their schedule will let students plan out every assignment and when to do it. Breaking down assignments makes the assignment less demanding than it really is, and by removing all distractions, students will have more time to focus on the assignment. Procrastination only leads to rushing, and by rushing, students are not giving their assignments their full attention. Doctor Manfred Beutel and his colleagues suggest “Procrastination was consistently associated with higher stress, more depression, anxiety, fatigue and reduced satisfaction across life domains, especially regarding work and income” (Beutel et al.). If procrastinating does not have any benefits and only impact students negatively, why procrastinate? Students should not procrastinate, instead, they should select a certain night every week to schedule each assignment, because it will take away from the stress and anxiety the assignments may cause. Procrastinating may seem like a good idea at the moment, but with all of the negative consequences, it does not make it worth it. Spending a restless night trying to squeeze out something to turn in the next day. This is a process known all too well by me, and most high schoolers in America, one known as: Procrastination. Procrastination is something easily avoided, and yet, seems to be one of the biggest causes for low grades in most students’ lives. It’s a tempting prospect, putting off your responsibilities to do something enjoyable, but it should be avoided at every possibility. Procrastination causes your grades to suffer, causes your mental health to suffer, and causes you to learn bad habits for the future.

Every time that a student procrastinates, or puts off something that they highly dislike, they toughen their habitual ways of not doing what they are supposed to do. Now that we see how procrastination is done and how college students can significantly decrease its effect in their day-to-day life, they will experience a greater sense of independence and personal gratification. College students have to continue to keep working and striving forward. They will still procrastinate every once in a while but college students will be much more aware of their procrastination habits and they will be able to resolve their issues as soon is it occur. When college students do flourish and continue to excel, they must remember that it is something that they can control.
When that time would come by to ask for help for the work, I would never actually do it and the work would never be done. I would have a sense of dread when this would happen but, ultimately, it would seem like I didn’t have that “Panic Monster” that Urban had mentioned in his talk. It would seem like it was dormant for most of the time during freshman year. Heshmat (2016) also mentioned, “The most significant predictor of procrastination is a task that’s considered unpleasant, boring, or uninteresting” (para. 5). With this point, it shows that procrastination isn’t necessarily something we have learned to do, rather that we do it because when there is something that we do not want to do, it is only natural to leave it alone until there is something that pushes us to actually do
Procrastination has negative effects on our mental and physical health, which can lead to poor sleep. Hairston and colleagues believe that procrastination is associated with sleep troubles, an association mediated by ruminative cognitions (Hairston et al., 2016). Participants completed an online questionnaire regarding procrastination; sleep troubles, rumination, emotional state, and biological clock. The results showed that in evening types procrastination positively correlates with sleep trouble, negative affect, and rumination. However, for morning types there is no correlation between procrastination and sleep disturbances. Procrastination & nbsp; & nbsp; It is Monday morning and I have slept in, thanks to Thanksgiving. In fact, it's twelve o'clock and I am free for the afternoon. As usual, I sit in. front of the television after I clean myself up, staring endlessly at the screen with my finger clicking on the remote.
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
As an adult student, it is not easy to manage the demands of work; spouse and children; and the need to set aside time to read, research, write, and complete specified assignments. The biggest complaint conveyed by adult students is that they simply don’t have enough time. The fact is time management is crucial so you don’t lose sight of your goals. Students’ time is a limited resource. Like other limited resources, time can be more or less effectively managed (Britton, 1991, p.405). It is hard to address my perspective of my own procrastination and my ability to learn. Now that I’m older and looking at the facts of where I am now in life, I should be a lot further in my college goals. Many young adults wish someone sat them down early in life and guided them in a wiser direction. A college degree is essential in the career world.
The definition of procrastination according to Solomon & Rothblum is the determined delay of the start or completion of a task (1984). Procrastinators will also differ from those who do not procrastinate in numerous ways. An example would be that procrastinators often fear failure, strive for perfection, may be slightly pessimistic and more anxious, which may become worse when they realize they are procrastinating (McCown & Johnson, 1991) or when deadlines are approaching (Tice & Baumeister, 1997). The personal and realistic problems that result from dysfunctional procrastination are predominantly acute in academics, as the inclination to put off school-related tasks often result in challenging levels of stress (Solomon & Rothblum 1984), on the whole the end of the academic semester would be the peak (Tice & Baumeister, 1997).
The definition of procrastination is: the action of delaying or postponing something. Tim Urban, who conducts a speech called Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator for TED in 2016, explains that every human is a procrastinator- some more than others. I agree with everything he says in his speech because I can connect with every piece of evidence he claims, mostly including that there is a “Panic Monster” that pops up in your brain when you are close to a deadline and haven’t gotten anything done, especially when it comes from why I’m always so stressed out about school. After spending three hours perusing the internet on articles about procrastination and time management, with two of those hours spent looking at planners, apps, and other various materials that theoretically will help me stop procrastinating, I suppose it is time to actually start writing my paper about procrastinating. I’ve fallen into the learned habit that I work best under pressure; however, the process of procrastination is always laced with acute anxiety and hassle, even if I ultimately finish the assignment on time. I am on a journey to find out why people procrastinate and hopefully find attainable solutions to the problem of procrastination, but first I must go outside and play in the snow.

About 4 out of every 10 people avoid facing difficult task and deliberately look for distractions, and unfortunately there are distractors everywhere. When there is a significant period between when you intended do a job and the time you actually did it, you procrastinated.
If you wait until the last minute your work will be done hastily and end up in a poor quality. When you take time to plan out your assignments and put thought into it, teachers will notice your improved work quality. Just the stress alone of rushed assignments create unwanted pressure. Taking time and putting in effort into your assignments raises your grade and shows your true potential. It is important to put forth your best effort into every assignment you complete and not wait until the last minute because it takes off unnecessary
Sometimes a student need to take six to seven classes per semester and the professors can assign new assignments for each classes. The students need to submit all the assignments before the deadline and as the deadline closes in pressure keeps building up. It can monumental task to complete two to three assignments a day or sometimes up to seven per week. Thus, the students will not have enough time to concentrate on the assignments as they also need to do other things such as attending classes, getting involved in co-curricular activities and part time job. Thus, the students will be stressed because of lack of time to finish the assignments. Some assignments are group assignments that need to be done with other students. If every group member cannot give their full commitment to do the assignments together, the students will be stressed too. So a lot of assignments can be one of the causes of stress among university students. And then there are exams and midterms which can be very stressful on it 's own as the results of those exams will reflect on a student 's future career
