His method involved measuring achievement for two each student, there were two tests done. The first test was done at the beginning of the school year and the second at the end of the school year. The first test was done to see the amount of educational foundation the student had prior to learning that year. The second test was done to see the additional learning the student received that year. His findings showed that there was a large variance between students in different classrooms. The results proved to be true even if students between different classes had the same SES, age, race and family background. The biggest question educators face in today’s classroom is what motivates a student to do something and why? Virtually all students are motivated in one way or another. Research of student motivation suggests a theory that emphasizes a social-cognitive perspective. The cognition of students regarding academic work are influenced by social factors, such as messages from the teacher about the difficulty of the task, the perceived abilities of classmates, and the information about the importance of learning the material (Urdan & Schoenfelder, 2006). In this paper the focus will primarily be on those elements within the classroom that influence student motivation and engagement.

The results of this study suggest that most of AUC students, the strong correlation between their performance and the exam questions indicates that student performance was satisfied with the quality of the questions, which include a variety of topics. For Cairo university students on both sides on the performance affiliation, the lack of correlation indicates that because Cairo university students are not studying core courses like AUC students had a strong influence on the final grade of the general knowledge exam. Thus, through the correlation method we were able to prove our hypothesis which states that students who study core curriculum courses benefit more and as able to grasp more knowledge.
