It has been sixty years since the Holocaust and to some it may feel like ancient history, but to others it still remains real and ever present. People around the world are still hurt by the Holocaust and in their heart will be scarred forever, but like anyone else that suffers a great tragedy like 911 or the Boston Marathon Bombings, they have to get back up. Jews and the millions of innocent victims all were knocked down a What do we have today? What do we have today? nd got back up in our hearts, and because of this the are long from forgotten. survivors of the Holocaust got back up and all showed resiliency. To me, they are amazing and are of the strongest people in the world. After an atrocity like the Holocaust, the survivors can stand up and tell their stories. I wish I could meet one of these strong survivors to hear all of their stories because without them I feel like we would lose so much. We would lose all of what they taught us and that is too valuable. I thank all of the survivors so much and hope one day would be able to speak to one in person. You have showed us so much and have taught us to properly remember the Holocaust. You taught us that its the Holocaust’s remembrance is just not just to remember the day it was over, but to remember all of those strong men, women, and children who died in the Holocaust. There are so many ways the Holocaust will be remembered. One way it will be remembered as is a time when happiness was once taking away. We all know the Holocaust was a tough period to go through. People went from being happy, enjoying their lives, and living the life, to constantly crying and hoping it would all end. The only thing keeping themselves together is their family and their strength. Happiness wa... ... middle of paper ... ... learned from the Holocaust and the survivors. The Holocaust survivors taught me that you don’t need a bunch of toys and gifts to be happy.
The Holocaust will forever be known as one of the largest genocides ever recorded in history. 11 million perished, and 6 million of the departed were Jewish. The concentration camps where the prisoners were held were considered to be the closest one could get to a living hell. There is no surprise that the men, women, and children there were afraid. One is considered blessed to have a family member alongside oneself.
During World War II there was event that lead to deaths of millions of innocent people. This even is known as the holocaust, millions of innocent people were killed violently, there was mass murders, rapes and horrific tortures. The question I will attempt to answer in the course of this paper is if the holocaust was a unique event in history. In my opinion there were other mass murders that people committed justified by the feeling of being threatened. But I don 't believe that any were as horrific and inhumane as Germany’s genocide of the Jewish people.
The Holocaust was a very impressionable period of time. It not only got media attention during that time, but movies, books, websites, and other forms of media still remember the Holocaust. In Richard Brietman’s article, “Lasting Effects of the Holocaust,” he reviews two books and one movie that were created to reflect the Holocaust (BREITMAN 11). He notes that the two books are very realistic and give historical facts and references to display the evils that were happening in concentration camps during the Holocaust. This shows that the atrocities that were committed during the Holocaust have not been forgotten. Through historical writings and records, the harshness and evil that created the Holocaust will live through centuries, so that it may not be repeated again (BREITMAN 14).
Holocaust Facts The Holocaust has many reasons for it. Some peoples’ questions are never answered about the Holocaust, and some answers are. The Holocaust killed over 6 million Jews (Byers.p.10.) Over 1.5 million children (Byers, p. 10). They were all sent to concentration camps to do hard labor work.
We need to remember the Holocaust because of all the Jewish people who died and the people who tried to save them. In the book “Book Thief”, the family risked their lives to help one of their friends who was Jewish. If the Nazis found out about the Jewish person in their basement they would take the whole family to the death camp with the Jewish friend. Also in the “Boys who challenged Hitler”, a group of boys who lived in Denmark, risked their Life’s to save Jewish people by putting them on rafts to float over to Sweden. They did that because Sweden was a free country and the Nazi’s did not have control over them.
The use of oral and written testimony can and often does have a powerful impact when studying the history of the Holocaust. Words have the power to create or destroy, encourage or suppress, calm or energize. They can spread hate or love, clarity or confusion. Sometimes words don't tell whole truths and can be misleading as in the case of some fraudulent “pseudo-memoirs” and “doctored” or misleading documents. However, the use of testimonies are great sources for studying the history of the Holocaust. They provide a personal account allowing us to empathize with the victims and most importantly, learn from the horrors of the past.
Because of the length of the war and the devastation of this genocide, Germany will forever be remembered for the Holocaust and the effect it had on multiple people groups. This event sparked from the idea of absolute supremacy and would continue until the damage was complete. People’s views of the German population and the Jewish people alike will be changed, and the Holocaust forever remembered as one of the largest racist genocides in
The Holocaust was an extremely horrific period of history. Millions were killed and lost everything, including money, family, and dignity. However, it has taught many lessons. We can study it today to make sure nothing like it ever happens again.
The Holocaust has left both a negative and positive effect on the world. This essay will examine the organizations, laws, extermination of minority groups, and the cold war to analyze how the Holocaust impacted and changed the course of history.
All of these survivors told their story to help show people how horrible the Holocaust was for the Jewish people. It was even more awful for some Holocaust survivors who never saw any of their loved ones ever again. It didn’t matter if you were in a labor camp, concentration camp, prisoner of war camp, or if you were a hidden child every victim of the Holocaust shared the same pain.
No one can ever forget the awful events that occurred during the Holocaust. No one can bring back the victims of the Holocaust. Although, we can preserve and mimic the hunger for righteousness and faith that the victims instilled in themselves, we can never replace the loss in dreams and contributions that were lost. Even in the toughest times, everyone must prevail. Everyone must live out their dreams each and every day.
Anne Frank, a famous Holocaust survivor, who wrote her experience in detail, gave us some insight on how a 13 year old Jewish girl found the will to survive. “As long as this exists,” I thought, “and I may live to see it, this sunshine, the cloudless skies, while this last, I cannot be unhappy.” (Doc D) Anne Frank found peace within nature as she gazes outside the window and witness
During the rule of Adolf Hitler, many children who were Jewish lived a very frightening and difficult life. They never were given the love and compassion that every child needs and deserves growing up. The Holocaust is a story that will continue to be shared till the end of time.
The Holocaust was one of the most tragic and trying times for the Jewish people. Hundreds of thousands of Jews and other minorities that the Nazis considered undesirable were detained in concentration camps, death camps, or labor camps. There, they were forced to work and live in the harshest of conditions, starved, and brutally murdered. Horrific things went on in Auschwitz and Majdenek during the Holocaust that wiped out approximately 1,378,000 people combined. “There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust.” –Fidel Castro
There are so many reasons to be disturbed with the Holocaust, from the horrible treatment of Homosexuals, Gypsies and Jews, to the harsh leader of the country, Adolf Hitler. But, there has also been a few positive events to come out of that horrible time period.
