A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Many people only communicate with friends and acquaintances that they see every day. This means that often many people only talk to co-workers or fellow students. Even those that attend a place of worship or participate in a sport or hobby still limit the amount of people they include in their conversations. This often limits social circles and activities that a person is active in. While volunteering, someone may meet up to as many as twenty or more people in less than an hour. Participating in a small talk with a stranger that shares the same interests and is working towards the same cause might turn out to end up being more than just a conversation. The conversation may lead to a friendship. A fun way to bond with already existing friends and family may be to bring them along on project. Friends and relatives get to partake in the activity while realizing how eye opening everything can be. “One of the best ways to make new friends and strengthen existing relationships is to commit to a shared activity together.” (Saisan, Smith, and Kemp) A volunteer can also help improve their already existing rela... ... middle of paper ... ... better. They realize that people actually care how they look at themselves. They also realize that there is hope and they can change their present and future by allowing outside help. The volunteer then realizes that they too are needed. Without them, not as many lives would be changed and there would not be as big of difference. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than realizing how much of an impact a volunteer can make.” (Cox) Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
...ittle could actually mean a lot to those who appreciate it. I also learned that doing something for others could be really fun. Volunteering with the VFW also increased my social skills. By working at the hamburger fest I got to work with other people and that increased my social skills. Doing voluntary work does not have to be boring. If you volunteer with friends or family it could not only benefit you by having fun with people you know, but it could also benefit others as well.
What do you love most about being a volunteer? The relationships that I continue to
It helps a person make new friends and it is good for increasing the number of people one can fall back to when they need someone to listen to their problems. It is also helpful with building one’s social and relationship skills. “[Volunteer service] gives [a person] the opportunity to practice and develop social skills” (Saisan and Smith). Another benefit is that it is good for one’s physical and mental well-being. “Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.”
Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
volunteering is important in the public sector because it helps the public services save money other than the military as the military reservists get paid but it is still voluntary. I got all my information from the websites which are for the organisation. the benefits of volunteering are:
Volunteering is a great way of helping out with issues in the community that would otherwise be insurmountable for any one individual.
I learned about the importance of giving back at the age of 11yr old and putting the very important needs of others in front of my own. Volunteering in a homeless shelter at a young age opened my eyes. Where I was placed to give food, clothes, money & hygiene products to people in need. Where would I be right now without the help of God, my mother, family& friends and the church community”. Giving a helping hand to the people in the community is Something we should always do. In the ("bible Acts 20:35 says in everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the lord Jesus himself said: it is more blessed to give than to receive"). Having a compassionate heart for the community blesses the congregation.
Also, helps people find programs or therapy that meets to people specific need by levels of care, issues people are struggling with fiancees and types of setting they want to get help.” By volunteering you are learning how people are getting help and, how to help people. For example, learning how they got into drug addiction and, what's their story behind it. By doing so you can learn on how not to fall into drug addiction . For example if you are noticing problems in friend or family member’s work, health, family, finances, relationships,, or self-respect, something might be wrong with them. Checking the person’s behavior closely for over a period of days or weeks to understand what leads you to think there is a problem. Talking about what you saw with family members or, friends helps determine how to figure out the problem. If they agree there is a problem, figure out who will talk to the person about getting help with their drug problem . Some people find when they seek help for themselves that the person with the drugs use problem gets angry, perhaps because it represent a loss of control. Also, getting help means that you want to help the person with there problem . It’s never too soon for you voluter
I had to plan fun events, but also make them very inexpensive. This was an
There are many methods of volunteering that can help college students make sense of the community in which they live in.
Being a volunteer to me is not a duty or an extracurricular it has been about learning and helping others. Helping others changes one’s life and expands one’s view of the world. In my life my experiences as a volunteer have shaped my values, actions, and goals. In retrospect, the moments that I cherish the most are the times when I was able to make an impact on others lives and see the outcome of my endeavors. Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer at an intensive two-week program that invited minority students to the Loma Linda University Campus to learn about the vast majority of careers in health.
Some people volunteer for the social aspect, to climb the social ladder while helping those less fortunate.
If volunteering was not around the world would be dirty, and not in good in good condition.Volunteering can help the world out.It can even help you become a better person. If volunteering was not around the streets would be dirty and filled with trash. And every where you go it would be dirty. For example the oceans would be dirty ,parks, and malls.
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
