The Texas Civil War was a major battle in Texas history. Some of the many people concerning Texas include John Reagan, Francis Lubbock, Thomas Green, John Magruder, and John Bell Hood. These significant individuals have made a huge mark in Texas history. An important individual was John Reagan. John Henninger Reagan was born on October 8, 1818 in Sevier County, Tennessee. He was the the oldest son of Timothy Richard and Elizabeth Reagan. Reagan was a Representative and a Senator from Texas. He also was a scalawag. He attended the common schools and private academies and later moved to Texas in 1839. John had an impeach when he lived there. John Reagan died on March 6, 1905, Palestine, Texas. Francis Lubbock was one important person in Civil War history. Francis Richard Lubbock, governor of Texas, 1861 to 1863, was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on October 16, 1815. He attended many private schools in South Carolina until the age of fourteen, when his dad died. He was a Confederate general in the American Civil War, a U.S. Army officer in the Mexican War, and a general in the Imperial Mexican Army of Emperor Maximilian. George Brinton McClellan was a Union general during the Civil War. He was born December 3, 1826 in Philadelphia, PA. He was also commander of the Army of the Potomac twice, which was the Union’s largest army. He fought as the General-in-Chief of the Union army until 1862, when he was removed by Abraham Lincoln, who thought he was a coward. This was because although he had many more men in his army, he often thought that he was outnumbered. This is a reason why Lincoln fired him. McClellan was a meticulous organizer and was very cautious about his war strategies.
The Annexation of Texas was one of the most debatable events in the history of the United States. This paper argues the different opinions about doing the annexation of Texas or not. In this case Henry Clay and John L. O’Sullivan had completely opposite opinions about this issue. The reasons of why not do it was because of the desire to prevent war, for division over slavery, and for constitutional rights. On the other hand, John L. O’ Sullivan wanted to do this because of his idea of Manifest Destiny. By 1845, the annexation of Texas went into effect.

Texas played a major role in the Civil War. Fort Bend County holds a prominent place in Texas history. Although most of the major battles did not take place in Fort Bend, the affects of the war were still prominent. Texas residents provided their full measure of courage and devotion to the cause. This is something that all future generations of Texans should be proud of.

Reagan’s father Jack was instrumental in making him the successful man we all know him to be. He did not do this necessarily by being the best example however. Jack Reagan, while always being described as a “good man” had his issues. He was in a constant pursuit of financial stability, which caused him to uproot and move his family many times during Reagan’s childhood. Jack was also a heavy drinker and spent a majority of the family’s money on alcohol. When asked about his father's drinking, Reagan often recalled an instance from his youth in which he came home to what he thought would be an empty house, but instead he found his father passed out, drunk in the snow. Young Reagan assisted his father into the house, taking on a role as caretaker that no child should have to. This lack of a solid father figure caused Reagan to look elsewhere to fill that void. He looked towards his faith, and found a heavenly father instead. Ever since childhood Reagan had a very strong faith. He was born in Tampico, Illinois; however, most of his childhood was spent in several different towns until his father decided to settle in Dixon, Illinois in 1920 to open a shoe store. Reagan was rather active in high school. He participated in the school plays; he was student body president, and also an athlete. In 1928, he graduated from Dixon High and went on to attend Eureka College on an athletic scholarship. In college, he played numerous sports, served as student council president, and performed in school productions. Reagan graduated from Eureka in 1932, where he majored in economics and sociology. After graduation, he found work as a radio sports announcer.

He taught school for a short time after the war but did not enjoy it. When he was seventeen he went to Salisbury, North Carolina which is where he studied law for a few years. He was admitted in to the North Carolina Bar in September of 1787. In June of 1796 Tennessee separated from North Carolina and admitted to the Union as the 16th state. Andrew was soon elected Tennessee’s first congressman. He was also elected as a U.S. senator but resigned after only one session. He then went home and became a judge for six years on the Tennessee Supreme Court. Andrew’s military career which had all started when he was only 13 years old became even more successful when he was elected major general of the Tennessee militia. Jackson later lead troops during the First Seminole War in Florida. General Jackson came from the battlefields of the War of 1812 a national hero. It was during this time he got his nickname which is “Old Hickory.
He fulfilled his goals and dreams for America and is highly regarded still to this day. He left office with great shoes to fill, and is looked back on as a great American leader. Finally, Texans fought in the Civil War because they loved Texas. John Wesley Rabb, a Texan who fought in the Civil War for Texas, wrote in one of his excerpts, “Tell Lissy not to talk to me about marrying up here, for if I ever do marry it will be in Texas, i think.” (Doc D.) Rabb was trying to explain that if he ever did marry, he would want it to be in the sweet land of Texas. This shows that he loved Texas and I’m sure many other volunteers that fought in the Civil War loved Texas as well. If the Texans didn’t like Texas, why would they even bother to fight.
