The Ten Commandments and Their Impact on the United States Today
In a country where Christianity is the prevailing religion, it is demoralizing to know that Americans are more familiar with the ingredients of the McDonald’s Big Mac than of the most important biblical principals ever written. The Ten Commandments are much more than a few biblical guidelines; they are the basis of our nation’s legal system. Our Founding Fathers went out of their way, time and time again, to acknowledge God four times in the Declaration of Independence, and yet people of this day and age believe that Christ’s words simply do not apply anymore. The Ten Commandments have not only made a lasting impact on the Christian faith, but also lay as the foundation for the legal system we all follow as a nation.
Christianity is a religion based off of the teachings of Jesus Christ, known as the Son of God and “the Anointed One”. It teaches us that there is and continues to be but one divine God of our universe who died on the cross for our sins. We all, as human beings, live in a broken world where only he can save us. Through a combination of reading passages of the Bible, a collection of Christian scriptures, prayer, and worship one can reach salvation and live with him in the everlasting kingdom of heaven. Christianity is based on having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, our savior.

There are multiple interpretations of them, but whether they are rules, instructions, or principles the Ten Commandments will always be the core of God’s law. Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, etc., the Ten Commandments are currently a part of everyday life and are influencing everyone living in the United Sates of America regardless of religion. It isn’t a matter of what religion or God you believe in, it is a matter of knowing these signposts are entirely a part of ones life. They measure or “gauge” the way our society is turning towards and how we are as people spiritually, ethically, morally, and all of above. The Decalogue is one of the most extraordinary guides to life can really change our perspective and world. No one is perfect, but even trying to follow these ten principals can and will steer one in the right direction. What started as a few biblical guidelines truly made an impact on an entire nation.
