Suddenly, her best friend and mother figure, Nacha, passes away. With Nacha dead, Tita was completely alone. She spent her time lonely in the kitchen and expresses her feeling of love for cooking. Then, she became contact with Pedro through sending cooks for him and that is kind of love expressions. However, she feels frustration and woozy, "How she missed Nacha! She hated them all, including Pedro. She was convinced and she would never love anyone again as long as she lived." (69). The surprising happening, that is made Tita feels good and all bad feelings melted away when she held Rosaura's son in her hands (69). At every incident she can, Mama Elena criticizes Tita and even beats her if she tries to speak up. One day Tita tells her mother that Pedro wants to come and ask for her hand, but according to the family tradition she cannot marry because she is the youngest daughter. Mama Elena tells Pedro he can marry Rosaura- one of her older daughters, and Pedro agrees to the arrangement just to be closer to his true love- Tita.

Mama Elena offers her daughter, Tita’s older sister Rosaura, to wed a man named Pedro, who is unknowingly in mutual love with Tita. Tita is forced to bake the cake for the wedding, which contains many tears that she cried during the process. Tita’s bitter tears cause all the wedding guests to become ill after consuming the cake, and Tita discovers she can influence others through her cooking. Throughout the film, Tita’s cooking plays an important role in all the events that transpire.

Tomoya did not take her death well, “I thought I had a crappy life... But even someone useless like me finally found something to live for... Right, Nagisa? R-Right? Nagisa... NAGISA!” (Ishihara s2 ep16). This moment of death was intended to teach her husband, Tomoya, to appreciate how blessed he is to have a family. Nagisa smiled until her last moment ensuring Tomoya that everything will be alright and there is nothing to worry about. However, within a matter of seconds, he lost it all. People all around her were depressed when she died. On the other hand, even though she was the one dying she was crying tears of joy. She knew the hazards that came along with giving birth of her child, yet she was brave enough to keep the child and smile during her last moment as if nothing happened. She repeated, “I’m sorry, but I’m starting to feel tired” (Ishihara s2 ep16). After this moment, the screen becomes blank with just Nagisa, Tomoya, and their new born child. This meant that nothing else exists, and it was just their little world. Nagisa was his reason to keep living. However, now that Nagisa is gone, he has to deal with the pain from the horrid world. In the second part of the novel it explains the story of Laila and her family. Laila’s mother does not seem to be bothered with her much. It tells about how she forgot to pick her up from school one day and a couple of boys squirted her with a toy gun filled with pee. Laila comes home and she wakes her mother up and tells her what has happened, she barely seems worried. This happens often in parenting. A lot of times parents can be swamped with things in their own lives that they can forget about things that go on in their children’s lives. This incident angered Laila as she thought about it, “Of course, it wouldn't have happened if Mammy had shown up like she was supposed to either. Sometimes Laila wondered why Mammy had even bothered having her. People, she believed now, shouldn't be allowed to have new children if they'd already given away all their love to their old ones. It wasn't fair. A fit of anger claimed her.” (Hosseini, 118-119) Mammy always seemed distant to Laila and Laila always ponders this. She thought about how her mother and father fought and how her mother might love her brothers more than she loves her. Then the incident happens and she is now almost certain that she does. Her brothers are killed in war and her mother becomes depressed. This breaks the family and now Laila is even more distant from her mother. Things like this can cause devastation to a family and it can make things different between them, just as it is in Laila’s family. Laila remembers what it was like to have the family happy and all enjoying each other’s company, “Laila's favorite part of Mammy's good days was when Babi came home, when she and Mammy looked up from the board and grinned at him with brown teeth. The significance of the father’s story and “Coming Home Again” is to show the growing disconnection between a son and a mother. All the mother wants is for her son to be more successful than she is, even if she occasionally regrets sending him away to school. Consequently, the son becomes impatient and distant—as most teenagers do—until he matures into an adult and begins to regret the negative attitude he once held towards his mother. Unfortunately, his mother’s early death caused remorse for his negative attitude towards her as a teenager. Through the loss of parents and close family, two sisters, Beena and Sadhana, have to navigate life while dealing with the loss of their loved ones.
