Suspensions are on the rise in schools today. Is it helping? Is it really accomplishing something good? Supporters say yes. I say no, and I am against it for most things. Suspension is supported by three main groups. Parents support suspension because it keeps those “bad kids” away from their peers. Principals support suspension because it gives them the appearance of being tough. Afterall parents can’t complain if the principal regularly expels bad kids. Administrators support suspension because it edges out those problem students. Does it really help the most important people...the students?
