In the article “Counterpoint: Cooling Off” by Dr. Amy Witherbee, a Professor at University of Arkansas, she shares the concerning statistic “Carbon dioxide has increased 30%, methane has increased more than 100%, and nitrous oxide has increased about 15%” (Witherbee). This is concerning because these dangerous gases called greenhouse gases cause many problems and are a hazard to our planet. One of the biggest issues facing the world today is climate change; to address this issue, we must lower greenhouse gas levels and use cleaner energy sources. Climate Change is costing the world millions of dollars and is the biggest issue facing society today. Climate change is causing greenhouse gases to build up, ice caps to melt, etc. Some people believe climate change is not a big issue. For instance in the article “Gospel of The Climate Change Deniers” it is stated, “Barton a guy who called Al Gore ‘totally wrong’ about global warming and advised people to get shade to adapt to rising temperatures” (Kroll). Although, this is an appealing mindset, it is illogical because climate change has many more effects than just warmer temperatures. In addition to lowering greenhouse gas levels and using cleaner energy sources, there are things we can do as people to stop climate change. We could reduce our use of electricity at our homes by turning off the lights when we leave the room, turning down/up the heating/ac when it is unnecessary, and using less water. Also, we could install solar panels in our homes and donate money to environmental protection agencies.
