One of my favorite films I have ever viewed would have to be ‘Spring Breakers’. The film is so wrong it is right. There is foul language, sexual scenes, and violence that makes it inappropriate for most viewers, and the editing technique makes the film appear to be drugged. The scenes of the film it is extremely choppy, and every ten seconds there are random scenes that interrupt the chronological order of the film. The scenes that move backwards in time like a flashback are not framed and edited to look like a typical flashback with the rippling into the scene or being in black and white. There were also voice overs placed throughout much of the film, even though the director wanted only a few moments of dialogue. “Spring Breakers” is an independent experimental film written and directed by Harmony Korine, starring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine, and James Franco. Most of the cast seems to fit in with each other, except for Rachel. At first I did not understand why she was cast to act alongside the rest of the cast who are more well known than her. Then I found out she is married to the director, and I was able to understand why she was cast. The story of this film revolves around four college students who rob a restaurant in order to pay for their spring break adventure. Many of the points and comparisons he stated allowed me to understand some elements about the film that were at the tip of my tongue but I could not fully explain. For example, when I first watched the film I liked the choppiness and color scheme used; however, it did seem familiar, but I could never pinpoint where I had seen that style before. The review finally showed me where I had seen that technique before; which was in pop art. This review has given me a better understanding of the film, and with that, I love this film even
