Music, one of the most beautiful sounds on Earth, the strumming of a guitar, the vibrations of reeds in a saxophone, the vibration and the pressure in between the two heads of the drums, the vibration of the bass chords. Every single thing has its own sound, some of those can not be heard because of the low or the high amount of hertz, and can only be heard by another type of animal that can actually hear that amount of frequency for example whales can hear a very high frequency while dogs can too. Us humans can hear only a certain amount of hertz. But what is sound? How does our ears receive the message that they have to be at work, receiving and transmitting frequencies so the people can listen the beautiful sound of music, or even the terrible sound of a car crashing, but what is a sound wave? And how do sound waves work?
A wave can be defined as a disturbance that travels through a medium, which carries energy. Medium is just the material in which the wave causes disturbance. On earth most of the mediums are, oxygen and water. “The basis for an understanding of sound, music and hearing is the physics of waves. Sound is a wave that is created by vibrating objects and propagated through a medium from one location to another.”(1)The most common objects used by teachers and people explaining sound waves are a tuning fork, and a slinky. A tuning fork because of the vibrations, that can be seen, and heard by tapping the tuning fork into another harder object. Slinkys are simply used, because it gives a great visual illustration of how a wave works. Since a sound waves cause disturbance through the medium they’re traveling through, a sound wave is characterized as a mechanical wave.

Sound waves are everywhere. A very big thanks to the ears, thanks for to the ears for receiving the vibrations that are caused by objects, which travel through material to get to the ears, which will send a message to the brains about the vibrations and how to read them. Sounds are just a form of vibrations. Those vibrations cause many feelings, many emotions, many changes in attitude. Its funny to find out that a beautiful song, is only a mixture of many vibrations making paths through the medium, with different type of pitches and force, that our ears are receiving and transmitting into a beautiful song.
This chapter provides some insight into pulse wave analysis and its relation to arterial diseases. The shape of the arterial pulse wave is an augmentation of the forward traveling wave with the reflected wave. The amount of wave reflection is dependent on the arterial wall properties such as arterial stiffness and is expressed in terms of Augmentation Index. This approach has been studied extensively using various measuring techniques, all of which have respective advantages and disadvantages. After carefully think, everyone has their own opinions on this term and it is hard to have an uniform criterion of music sounds. According to the text book, Michael B. Bakan states five propositions to define the music. The first one is about the tone and the second one talks about the music is organized in some way. The next two are claims that music is human organized and a product of human intention and perception. The last proposition argues music cannot separate from Western culture. As a part of this longitudinal sound wave, the particles vibrate back and forth in a direction parallel to the direction of energy. Since the air molecules always return to their original position, they have no net displacement. When the vibrating molecules of air have to escape somewhere, this is where the sound hole comes into play. The air escapes through it and this is where the sound is projected. When all this occurs, it’s called the Helmholtz resonance (Wolfe).
It is true that the strings alone create the musical sound, but the problem is that the strings on their own cannot create a loud enough sound for everyone to hear and enjoy. The sound must be increased and this can be done through the use of an acoustic guitar by using a sound box, which is a resonant cavity and a soundboard. The soundboard is vibrated through the bridge, which in turn makes it vibrate. Because the soundboard consists of a larger surface than the strings alone, more air volume is used which produces louder sound.
Noise is ubiquitous in our environment. (Pediatrics , 1997) It is undesirable sound, unwanted sound. Sound is what we hear. It is vibration in a medium, usually air. Sound has intensity, frequency and duration. The ability to hear sounds at certain frequencies is more readily lost in response to noise. (Pediatrics , 1997). The further you are from sound the less effect you hear it but the more closer you are to sound the louder it is.

There are different genre’s of music, ranging from rock to pop to classical. Each person likes different genre’s of music.
Through out the history of music, acoustics have played a major role. After all if it were not for acoustics the quality of sound that we know today would not exist. The word acoustics comes from the Greek word akouein, which means, “to hear”(Encarta Encyclopedia). Since music has to be heard in most cases for enjoyment, acoustics obviously take on a very important role in the pleasure that music brings to the ear. Acoustical architecture and design are two key elements in the way music sounds. For example, an electric guitar played in a concert hall would sound very different compared to the sound produced in a small room. These differences can be explained by the acoustical design of the room and the reverb created by both the instrument and the room in which it is played. These differences signify the importance of acoustics in music.

As a musician, I always related to sounds in terms of musical application. The only sounds I paid attention to were those involved in creating and performing music. Musical sounds were the most important to me. Well . . . actually, as a traveling musician, any troubling sounds my car made were almost as important. In physics, music is essentially a form of energy and is transferred by a wave. There are two basic kinds of waves. The first is a transverse wave where the medium vibrates at a right angle up and down causing the wave to move to the right. A compressional wave (or longitudinal wave) moves to the right and left because the medium vibrates in the same direction.
