There were many diseases brought to America from Europe, but only one changed the American landscape during the late 16th century. There was no disease that influenced American colonization more than Small Pox. Small Pox is an infectious disease caused by one of two viruses. Small Pox caused pustules on the body which often led to death, and if a person survived, they were likely to be blind. Small Pox has been eradicated as of 1977, but up to that point had killed millions of people around the world. Imported diseases were more devastating to Native Americans.
