My life changed when I was in the seventh grade. I will never forget what happened to me then. It changed my life for both good and bad. To this day, I remember like it was yesterday. People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.

Eighth grade is no exception., and will be very different from 7th grade. As I enter my eighth grade school year, I will be bombarded with a variety of new experiences and challenges such as buddies, academics, and being prepared for high school. In early September the students of Sherwood Middle School and parents were shocked. When it was announced by the the district that Sherwood Middle School would be getting a new vice principal. The school board announced that Sherwood Middle School’s vice principal for the last two years, Mr. Kevin McIntosh. Would be leaving and would be replaced by a young man named Marc Jolley.
Some of the most influential things in my life have changed me so much and shaped me into the person I am today. If it wasn’t for my friends and family I wouldn't have nearly the amount of musical knowledge that I have now and I’m so grateful that I can be somewhat well versed in a topic that I am so passionate about. Imagine if East Jordan high school offered several elective and AP classes to students. Imagine how it could benefit the students of East Jordan Public schools. It would offer much more to students. East Jordan high school use to have many elective classes like: Forensics, Environmental sciences, Creative writing, honors biology, and advance writing, but now the high school does not offer enough elective and AP classes. East Jordan high school must add more classes because they help with schedules, college, and preparedness.
After moving from Culver City and into Westmont, my brother and I wanted to continue our studies at our elementary in Culver City so we commuted on three buses and the train at 5:30 in the morning. It was not easy, but it became the norm that continued onto middle school. After my brother and I graduated, we attended Venice High School; however, I would not last longer there. My math teacher wanted me out of the classroom, a class where I was the only Hispanic student, and instead wanted me to retake a math course. After unsuccessful attempts to convince school administrators and the teacher to allow me to stay in the classroom I decided to leave and attended my homeschool, Washington Preparatory High School (WPHS). I was clueless of the type of school WPHS was, but I soon would know.
I despised being in front of people, I couldn't stand memorizing lines, and all the songs were so childish. But now, looking back, I see what it all meant. Fast forwarding to the summer of 2016, I took part in a two week dance program at New York University. At that point in my dance career, I had improved so much and dance had become my life.
Ever wonder what happens if everything changes in a blink of an eye? On June 3rd, 2016, I graduated secondary school. That night in my middle school gymnasium, the administrators had organized a celebratory party in the graduate’s honors. I remembered dancing the night away with the people I held so dear to my heart for nine years. The strobe lights shining and music blaring while we were staring at each other with content. We parted ways at the end of that cheerful night. We were sad to say goodbye, yet we didn’t know that some us were saying goodbye to each other for ever to go lead different lives apart from each other. At the time, I knew that moment will always be a highlight of my life but later I came to know that it was also a catalyst for change. Although freshman year and half of sophomore year brung hardships that have come and go, the experiences have changed me for the better throughout the year and a half.

We had spent weeks on learning many routines. I was in the team group dance, I had a solo, and I was in another group dance, but with the older kids. I pushed myself so hard. I was determined to not mess up, and do really well. If the routine got messed up, I felt as if it’d be my fault. Especially since I wasn’t as old as the other girls and guys. Soon enough, I had much bigger things to worry about. I was about to go on stage. I had a massive amount of butterflies in my tummy. “Breathe. You can do this Winter-Lee. Just feel the rhythm, and let go.” I got onto the stage and I lost myself into the dance, and became less worried about what people in the audience would think. After my solo dance, I got a standing ovation. I have never felt so out there, from who I thought I was. I cried tears of joy because I conquered my stage freight with an act of bravery and confidence. I was so ecstatic, I couldn’t wait until the group number. When it came to the group number, we did really well. We are were in sync not only with our bodies and minds, but with our soul as well. I am very thankful for my experiences in dance. I am not as shy as I once was. I think dancing changed me, and made a big impact on my life.

As a child I always wanted to be in the spotlight. I was always the ham in family pictures, the one who had to excel past my brother, and be in the know of everything. When I was about twelve years old, I realized that entertaining people was what I was all about.
