What are goals? Goals are targets that you take step. Setting goals is important because they push you to improve yourself and help you guide yourself through life. “If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else”. ~David P. Campbell. 1 I think that everyone needs to set goals. It doesn’t matter who you are, you need goals to move forward in life and to improve yourself as a person. When setting goals you can set long-term goals and short-term goals. Long-term goals are goals that take a longer time to accomplish and require a lot of planning. I have struggled with this for a long time because I procrastinate, forget to write down when it is due or just don’t do it at all. This is something I have to change because it is affecting my grade. To achieve this goal I have to put my priorities first. I have to organize what I am going to do first by putting in a grid from most urgent to least urgent. Also not putting the homework that I don’t want to do last because then it becomes a chore for me and I end up not doing anything. Putting away all distractions like phones and tablets will also help out. My second academic goal is to do better on my test. This is my short-term goal. I can do this by practicing the skills I have learned, make practice test and use the notes that I take during class to help me when I study. Also annotating more and reading the question closely will help me out during test. This is a short-term goal because I can do this with any test. My last goal is to improve my grammar. I have always been bad at spelling and punctuation. I don’t why it is so difficult for me to memorize these things. I plant to study the way words are used, to expand my vocabulary and to use better punctuation in the
The theory of goal setting was developed by Edward Locke and Gary Latham (1990) and states that there is a direct relationship between the setting of specific high goals and task performance. A higher degree of employee performance is obtained when specific goals are set compared to the performance achieved when employees are simply told to do their best (Latham & Locke, 2007). These findings have helped shape leadership styles and improve employee performance and job satisfaction (Posthuma & Al-Riyami, 2012).
Many issues and problems emerge in organizations that require action by leadership in order to maximize productivity. Because numerous decisions are made on any given day in an attempt for a school or organization to operate as smoothly as possible, constant effort and energy is required to monitor an organization’s culture. A problematic situation in my current organization that is rooted in employee motivation and attitudes is the lack of satisfaction communicated by group members. A year ago, the organization participated in a culture assessment that was conducted by the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA). This audit was ordered by our executive director because of the displeasure and dissatisfaction employees were communicating and displaying while at work. The
To effectively set goals for one’s self, as well as one’s followers, a thorough understanding is needed of what goal setting is: an effort directed toward a specific successful accomplishment. “Without well-constructed goals, your life is governed by whim or the urgency of the moment.” (Wilson & Dobson, 2008) Therefore, it is only by setting goals that a person, group, or organization can effectively accomplish its’ visions and be successful.
A goal is a general statement of what an organization or individual intends to accomplish. Without goals, an organization has nothing to guide its actions for the year. Goals provide officers and members with something to strive for and an evaluation measure to determine what the organization has accomplished over the year.Performance of employees and whole organizations is affected by the goals they set themselves.
Have you ever seen the kicker on a football team try and kick on a windy day? He quickly realizes that the goal of knocking the ball through the uprights cannot be directly achieved due to the challenging conditions. Instead, the kicker adjusts to the wind and uses it in his favor in order to help him achieve his ultimate goal, make the field goal. That is how I interpreted this quote and I completely agree with the meaning behind this quote.
Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.

Out of everything that we 've learned this quarter, goal setting was something that stood out to me. There are a few times where I set a goal in my head but end up never achieving them, wether it was something very simple or more of a long term goal. A technique that stood out to me in our notes is, writing down your goals. I don 't I 've ever written down a single goal that I 've had. In class and in our notes we talked about how it is important to write down your goals and how you cannot just write the general idea of your goal, but how you need to be very specific in what it is you want to achieve. I think that in college it 's very important to set long, mid, and short term goals because somedays will be harder than others and you need
Many people tend to set goals. They can set goals for their personal life, academics, or even for their professional lives. You can literally set a goal for pretty much anything you can imagine. I believe that people should set goals, they help you stay focused and want to do better for the future. Goals change all of the time though, because of a lot of different reasons, maybe you found that one thing just really is not what you want to do with your life, so you find something else to do. To me that is just how life is, my goals will most likely change as I am getting older and trying to find what I want to do with the rest of my life.
