Family is defined as parent(s) and child/children living together in a household. Every family is different. What is important to one family may not be important to the next family. There may also be several things that different families have in common when addressing strong important characteristics of a family. Characteristics of a good strong family include(Parent Leadership and Involvement, n.d).: • spending time together • effectively communicating • showing appreciation, commitment to one another • good coping skills and values and • convictions There is not limited or maximum time that a family must spend together to be considered healthy. The object of spending time together it the quality of time spent together not the quantity of time. Effective communication means having the ability to listen to what is being said and being able to speak to one another calmly. When showing appreciation and commitment to one another is basic respect for one another and helping the family member accomplish what they think is important to them. Good coping skills and value is having the ability to deal with crisis when they arise(Sale, n.d). My family consists of my husband, two sons and myself. Currently one son is living at home and the other son is in the military. My husband has retired from the military and is now pursuing his education. My son is currently in high school and playing every sport that he can possibly play. As for me I am currently in the military. My husband and I are the nucleus of our household. We share responsibilities and decisions are not made without discussing those decisions with one another. Education is essential in our household. Human services respond directly to the needs of a parent and child; as well as human services representatives and their clients. Human service professionals live by a code, which is integrity and the welfare of their clients at all times because of the privacy Act of 1974. The Privacy Act of 1974 states “the term "record" means any item, collection, or grouping of information about an individual that is maintained by an agency, including, but not limited to, his education, financial transactions, medical history, and criminal or employment history and that contains his name, or the identifying number, symbol, or other identifying particular assigned to the individual, such as a finger or voice print or a photograph” (The Privacy Act Of 1974, n.d.)
