My Career Path I am attending Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University to become a licensed radiologic technologist. I chose this profession because I thoroughly enjoy helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. Radiologic technologists are expected to give efficient patient care while following the doctor’s order to proceed with the X-ray examination. Radiology is the most important role in healthcare because with out having X-rays, the surgeons could not see inside of the patient’s body to perform surgery. There used to be training programs that range from six months to two years in duration and result in a certificate upon successful completion. Course work will include anatomy, patient positioning, radiation safety, and basic patient care. Now, beginning in January 2015, there is a requirement for every one to pursue a career in Radiology to have a license before they can even get a job as a radiologic technologist. There is an exam after you complete your two-year schooling in a radiology school that you must take to obtain your licensure. This exam is called the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. After doing so, you will be considered a certified and registered CT technologist. You are in charge of getting together all books and materials needed to review for the registry exam. The ARRT will not provide any of this for you. The time it will take to become certified will all depend on you and how soon you want it. I could start studying for it now so when I graduate I can have my application submitted to take the registry right
As an ultrasound technician/sonographer I will have the ability to see dangerous defects within the human anatomy and begin a lifelong profession with many benefits. The Ultrasound was first invented in the early 1900’s and was surprisingly not used to produce photos of a fetus. In 1917 Paul Langen a marine life scientist used a form of ultrasound equipment in his attempt to detect submarines. After many failed attempts at using high frequency sound waves Dr. Ian Donald and his team in Glasgow, Scotland invented the first ultrasound machine in 1957. Dr. Donald even tested his machine on patients within a year of completing the invention, by the late 1950’s ultrasounds became routine in Glasgow hospitals.
The career that I chose for a possible advancement beyond a staff radiation therapist was radiation oncology supervisor. Overall the main day to day duties of a radiation oncology supervision is to make sure the department is running smoothly by making sure their staff are appropriately completing their duties. They do this by making sure the staff are sticking to the standards and ethics implemented by their profession and the hospital.1 As part of their job it is their duty to hire employees and makes sure those employees are trained to provide good care to cancer patients.1 They have many administrative day to day duties like planning budgets, developing policies, identifying problems within the department and developing solutions.1 The

In order to become an ultrasound technician you need to advance your schooling beyond high school. It really just depends on what you are willing to do. You can go to college anywhere from 1 to 4 years and beyond. 1-2 years would be your associates. Which is the bare minimum. 3-4 years would be your bachelors. Often times people with higher degree levels will also get paid a higher salary than those who are just working with the bare minimum. The more after graduate schooling you take the higher the rate of pay will be.
