My Career Path I am attending Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University to become a licensed radiologic technologist. I chose this profession because I thoroughly enjoy helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. Radiologic technologists are expected to give efficient patient care while following the doctor’s order to proceed with the X-ray examination. Radiology is the most important role in healthcare because with out having X-rays, the surgeons could not see inside of the patient’s body to perform surgery. There used to be training programs that range from six months to two years in duration and result in a certificate upon successful completion. Course work will include anatomy, patient positioning, radiation safety, and basic patient care. Now, beginning in January 2015, there is a requirement for every one to pursue a career in Radiology to have a license before they can even get a job as a radiologic technologist. There is an exam after you complete your two-year schooling in a radiology school that you must take to obtain your licensure. This exam is called the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. You must complete this within a certain amount of time after your graduation date from the facility you earned your degree from to receive a license while earning your required continuing education credits to work in the …show more content…

After doing so, you will be considered a certified and registered CT technologist. You are in charge of getting together all books and materials needed to review for the registry exam. The ARRT will not provide any of this for you. The time it will take to become certified will all depend on you and how soon you want it. I could start studying for it now so when I graduate I can have my application submitted to take the registry right
