Rachel Carson was born in May 27, 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania. She’s known for her best selling book Silent Spring which talks about the dangers of pollution and how it affects the environment. Growing up she lived in a farm which her mother, taught her to know more about nature and wildlife while her father wasn’t home as much. Her mother had inspired Rachel to be interested in literature which eventually she knew that she wanted to be a writer. However, when she reached to college, she changed her major from English to Biology after she had realized her actual love for Science. In 1936, Carson was hired by the U.S Bureau of Fisheries to be an aquatic biologist and within a year later she published an essay in 1941 that led to her first

Starting in 1931, she began teaching at Vassar College while pursuing a PhD in her strong field of Mathematics at Yale, where she would go on and earn the prestigious degree.
