Marriage and Family Process philosophy is known as the idea that everything is changing. Over the years, process philosophy has changed the way humans exist and go about their day to day lives. In order to fully grasp the concept of process philosophy we will first take a closer look at process philosophy, as a whole, its history, and the ideas behind this particular philosophy. Then we will discuss the effects process philosophy has had on marriage and family, followed by a brief commentary.
Introduction to Process Philosophy
What is the true definition of process philosophy? When we turn to our textbook we can see that process philosophy “represents a process view of life that emphasizes becoming and progressive knowledge leading to a perfect society, which stand in direct contrast to absolute philosophy or an absolute view of life that is the basis of for Biblical Christianity” (Ferdon, 2014, p.114). Process philosophy came to be around the 1870s, after the “second American Revolution, when the search for an absolute authority within the central government arose” (Martin, 2006, p. 121). We must support any marriage, even if it’s not the traditional marriage. If the two people getting married truly love and support each other, then according to the law they should be allowed to marry. When people have successful marriages, they have a better outcome when raising their children. I do believe that God should be the center of every relationship and marriage.
