of the Industrial Revolution were also more positive socially because things that brought popular culture together were introduced and the middle and upper class had better living conditions. The effects of the Industrial Revolution were more positive economically because the production of manufactured goods became easier and many new jobs were created and became available. One example of a positive effect economically was the invention of products with interchangeable parts, along with the invention of the assembly line. The invention of the assembly line in factories and new ways of making products, such as cars, helped create more jobs, along with other jobs that also became available. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because with product with interchangeable parts, there would be less materials wasted when a small part of the whole product, such as a machine would stop working. The assembly line would speed up the making of a product, allowing them to keep up with the demand and have their wages increase. With more products being sold, the companies selling those products would make more money in profits, this would allow the companies to manufacture even more products that benefit their targeted consumers. Another example of a positive effect economically is that a lot of Industries were able to create new jobs for the middle class.
Some of these jobs allowed people to become bankers, clerks, lawyers, and even managers. These jobs provided the workers with financial stability. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because with higher paying jobs, workers would not have a reason to leave, providing the companies they work for with the continuation of their service. The continuation of their service would provide them with a continuing profit that would allow those in charge of the factories to expand their companies by marketing. Another important positive economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in document #2. This document was created by Charles Knight who was a writer for the working class people in England, 1831. The document explains that houses and other buildings were better constructed, clothes and fabrics became more common, and traveling could be done 10 times faster by train. Charles explains that most people could afford these products allowed people to connect more and live safer lives in those better constructed buildings. This document demonstrates that the effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive economically because life became more convenient for those …show more content…
who wanted to move around. Things seen in everyday life also became more efficient since such things, like buildings, became more sustainable when built with the much more durable materials manufactured in the factories. Dr. Michael Word, who wanted to talk about the health of textile workers to the British Parliament believed that child labor should not exist because many of the cases he worked on involved children who were injured in the workplace. Dr. Michael saw argued that half of the children who were employed in factories were involved in serious accidents while working leaving the with critical injuries. That was a long time ago, the idea of factories was new and many companies did not have their regulations as developed as they do today. Safety regulations only are how they are today because of experiences learned from the past. All workers who faced risks of injuries knew there were things to be careful about when working in a factory. The Industrial Revolution made it more convenient for workers’ safety by having machines do a lot of the dangerous functions on the product for them. New ways of entertainment and having more efficient ways of communication were positive social effects the Industrial Revolution caused.
One example of a positive effect socially was a new step in the evolution of entertainment. Cities created recreation parks, amusement parks, theaters, cafes, and even dancehalls for people to come together, even bars were created, but women were excluded from them. Newspapers and novels contributed to popular culture because they allowed people to share stories and knowledge about things such as special events. Moving pictures, also known as curiosities, were short clips with no sound nor story. These were appealing to the working class because it was cheap entertainment never seen before. This example shows the social effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because people’s lives became full of different activities to choose from to spend time with their families with and not just be at work all day. Another example of a positive effect socially was the invention of the telephone, followed by the invention of the lightbulb just 3 years later. Alexander graham Bell’s invention of the telephone in 1876 made it easier for people to communicate while at different locations without having to wait for the other person’s reply days, maybe even weeks later. 3 years later in 1879, The lightbulb was invented and introduced to the public by Thomas Edison. This provided people with a new source of lighting. This example shows
the social effects of the Industrial Revolution were positive because transportation was now more efficient because of new machines that were only possible because of the Industrial Revolution. A new source of light and transportation was what the whole world needed and were sure to spend money on as soon as available to the public in order to make life more convenient for them. William Cooper and Joseph Hebergam, both factory workers, accepted to be interviewed and have their answers be given to the Sadler Committee with one purpose, to reduce hours of employment for workers and children. They believed that factory workers had too many hours spent in factories’ dangerous conditions. However, there work hour were shortened after the Factory Acts were passed. Shortened hours allowed women and children employees to be able to take care of things at home and even receive an education needed in order to be able to get a higher paying job in the future. The production of manufactured goods and jobs being created during the Industrial Revolution made it have positive effects on the economy. Improved living conditions and culture being brought together were positive effects caused by the Industrial Revolution. The invention of the assembly line provided factories with more workers, consumers with a lot of products, and companies with huge profits. New forms of communication allowed people all throughout the world to do business locally and internationally. It is important to discuss the Industrial revolution because it is what changed business and daily life for the whole world.
The industrial revolution had mainly negative effects. The industrial revolution was a time in world history that has technically never ended. It is the time when society started to mass produce goods in order to provide enough goods for the booming population. People started to move from villages to cities where factories were looking for workers. New medical advances were made and people began to live longer. While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the increased amount of new and cheaper products, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were the dangerous and sometimes lethal work areas, poor living conditions and cramped housing,
The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain truly effected Europe in different ways. The peasants worked long hours and lived in poor conditions. The middle class lived modest lives and sometimes were promoted to the upper class. The upper class greatly benefited with the new advancements in technology. The Industrial Revolution helped make Europe a more advanced place, even though it did have some flaws.
The industrial revolution started around 1750. It began in Britain and it spread through out the World. England was known as “the world’s workshop” because at that point in time, England was the major manufacturing center of the World.(Bailey) It took about ten years for the industrial revolution to spread to other places. It spread to America. The Industrial Revolution was favorable to the American colonies by bringing the factory system to America, supplying more employment which increased urban growth, and raising the national economy.
America's economy had been at a steady pace but things began to change once technological contributions began to become part of the picture. This technological boom would become known as the Industrial Revolution. Once transportation had been invented the rest of America’s commerce would increase, leading to more ideas and inventions to help its economy grow. This revolution created a demand for goods making America’s production have to increase. With that said America would create more and more inventions that would take the place of a worker, opening up more jobs in order to create these machines. Pushing its production in trade America will soon grow wealthier and bigger due to these technological contributions. From 1818-1850 America was
The Industrial Revolution began over two centuries ago and has had a major impact on every current world power. It began in a group of islands off the North West coast of Europe and has been imitated or tried by every nation looking to increase its wealth and power throughout the world. Industrialization came out of the basic ideas of capitalism because it fostered individuals who were willing to take high risks in hopes of high returns on their investments. These investments included factories and machines that would be put to use by people to better their standard of living. These entrepreneurs would return their profits back to the expansion and improvement of their factories and machines.
The Industrial Revolution had negative immediate effects but positive long-term effects on the lives of the people. The Industrial Revolution was important because it changed how we produce material goods dramatically making the process faster without using manual labor. Although the Industrial Revolution had a positive effect on the economy the immediate effects of the revolution were the workers living in atrocious conditions, working in unsafe factories, and given unfair wages. The revolution was negative for the people at the time but in the long-term helped create labor unions, government regulations,
The Industrial Revolution, as stated above, began in Europe. This may have been one of the reasons for the rapid growth and success of the revolution. At the time, Europe was the perfect starting ground. This was for three main reasons. First of all, agriculture in this region was flourishing. This allowed for the first “sparks” of innovation to occur. Secondly, due to this increased agriculture, the population in this region was larger. This created the minds and the work force behind the revolution. With all three of these combined, the industrial revolution was formed, allowing for numerous inventions and innovations.
The effects on society due to the industrial revolution varied on the person. Working during this area varied on what you liked to do versus what you had to do. People who liked their work didn’t usually have to do that job, but people forced to work didn’t really like their job or just had a bad job overall. While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of how America shaped and changed all of it to improve the way people work today, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrializations negative effects were bad working conditions, long and strenuous hours, injury and even death took it role on the society during this time.
The Industrial Revolution originated in Britain thanks to the encouraging population and government who pushed for innovation through applied scientific insight. After the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment period, people were much more knowledgeable and full of ideas. Their
Industrial Revolution Essay The Industrial Revolution (1750-1850) had many great inventions that mostly made life easier, though some of them also had disadvantages. Some of the most important inventions of the Industrial Revolution had negative effects on society, the creation of steam engines, canals and improvements in agriculture greatly affected people’s way of life during the Industrial Revolution. Although all of the inventions made things easier, some of them had considerable disadvantages that negatively impacted society. Without a doubt the most important invention during the Industrial Revolution was the steam engine.
The industrial revolution of 17th and 18th centuries saw the transformation of Britain from a Neolithic nation into an industrious nation. However, this spread quickly throughout the world, introducing the modernisation of agriculture, revolution in power and manufacturing of textile.
Although the Industrial Revolution caused a drastic increase in the industrial production, the impact was not as positive socially. The two most significant social consequences of the First Industrial Revolution are the impact on the families and the hardships of relocating to find employment.
England was the first country to experience the advantages and disadvantages of the Industrial Revolution, as it was the very first country in which the event happened, primarily because England was such a good source of coal and iron, arguably the most important resources needed by a country during the Industrial Revolution. Although England also experienced the Industrial Revolution because England was bountiful in lead, copper, tin, limestone and fast water supplies, overall, England was probably the most ideal place for the Industrial Revolution to be staged in the first place. A major cause for the Industrial Revolution was the enormous spurt of population growth in England. Along side the fast growth in population, medical systems had also improved, thus there was a reduction in the number of epidemics that spread resulting in less of a death toll through lack of medical knowledge. From this, the percentage of children who lived through childhood also began to increase, thus the future workforce would be even large than previously.
The Blessings of the Industrial Revolution The modern world is extremely reliant on technology, whether it has to deal with smartphones, cars, or medicine. Without the Industrial Revolution, the present day would not be the same. The Industrial Revolution was a blessing for the middle class because production, healthcare, and transportation improved. Industrialization improved the lives of all groups of people in Europe because of the advancement of technology. Lifestyles began to improve due in part to the introduction of efficient machines rather than hand production.
The Industrial Revolution was a time of great change in the world and changed the way many products were manufactured. Originating in England and Great Britain, its effects spread across the globe and influenced the way people lived and worked and lead to the modern world known today. While it did not always have positive effects, through imperialism, Britain’s Industrial Revolution brought about technological innovations that transformed the world and its economies.
