Discussion This study demonstrated that pop music influences happiness mood. As hypothesized participants in the pop music category were influence by the music and seem happier. The analysis revealed that participants in the rock and classical music categories didn’t have an effect in their mood. The results for rock and classical music did not supported the hypothesis, which rock music causes a person to have an aggressive mood, and classical music will lead to a calmer mood. The data support the primacy effect pop music results supported the hypothesis that pop music leads to a happier mood. The results from this data support from previous literature research such as the pop category. The results could also interpret as support for (Hargreaves, 1999). People make their music preferences based on the emotional state they are in (Hargreaves, 1999). The analysis revealed that pop music scored higher than students who had rock or classical. The implications for this study are to examine if music influence mood in a negative or positive aspect). As an outcome happiness mood correlated with pop music . There wasn’t no effect between rock music and aggressive mood. Classical music didn’t have a relationship between classic music and calm mood. The results of this study wouldn’t be able to support (Jordana Mena, 2007). This consists of classical music being composed with different emotions based on the key and time signature it is on. If the classical piece is written in a higher key then they saw different mood responses than the classical pieces written in a low key (Jordan Mena, 2007). An earlier start of collecting data would have increased the changes of collecting more surveys/participants. All of the participants range age range was 18-32 . To have better results of this study there should of being a division of each age group. On the other hand, there should of being different categories of ethnicity , and due the majority population of the size being Latinos in San Diego State University – IV Campus , there wasn’t a difference in the results. Also, another limitation was an unequal in gender. ( 20 male, 43 female, 1 missing). Not using every single type of music categories ,may be a limitation, but instead the study was to focus in major music genres. Additionally, the length of the song might of been to short or to long . Future research could focus attempts to develop a more effective scales.

It explodes and carries on, morphing worlds of unrelated personas. It lives rampantly in the mouths of millions of unruly and free-spirited teenagers, like a fever. What are some types of Rand B music that stands out in the world? In this essay I would be discussing three types of Rand B music; rhythm and blues, contemporary r and b, and r and b soul. Rhythm and blues regularly abbreviated as R&B, is a classification of popular African American music that started in the 1940s. Music can sooth the soul if one listens to different kinds of R&B music. In this essay, I would like to discuss the different categories of R&B music. In a survey study most people stated that their investment in music derives from its ability to convey emotions(Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) Studies have implied that music can elicit basic emotions such as happiness (Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) Music with a fast tempo and major mode are considered and reacted to as happy music, while music with slow tempo and minor mode are deemed sad(Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) This effect was shown through fMRI imaging while listening to different genres of music and participant questionnaires (Gebauer, Kringelbach and Vuust 2012.) A study conducted by Greasly and Lamont was able to show that there are two broad types of listeners; less engaged and more engaged(Greasley and Lamont 2006.) Less engaged listeners we categorized by listening to music only a few hours a week to pass time, and were less likely to make the music selection themselves (Greasley and Lamont 2006.) More engaged listeners reported listening to music up to 40 hours a week and were more likely to choose the music selection for themselves (Greasley and Lamont 2006.) The main difference found between the two types of listeners was the ability for the music to impact the listeners mood(Greasley and Lamont 2006.)

According to Merriam Webster music is “vocal or instrumental sound (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, body and expression of emotion” and “the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity.” With each generation the music industry has adapted and adjusted to be what people listen to and be remain a hit, whatever that takes. There has been a constant debate with the younger generation and the older generation about what is good music. Is music from the 1980’s and 1990’s better than the today’s music? I would argue that for various reasons music from the 80’s and 90’s is better than today’s music and vice versa.

The truth has never really been verified among common knowledge, but it’s usually something that intrigues people. They say heavy metal and rap can make teenagers violent, sad and depressing music can make teenagers sad and depressed, and some say it’s best to listen to classical music when doing schoolwork because it makes your brain more active. There have been many people that reported how music has effects on their behavior. It can lift their mood, “fuel the fire” when they’re angry, or even make it easier for them to fall asleep. People never really get the chance to research the actual science of music, and how it changes people attitudes.

In the mid 1980s, the hip hop music was moving towards to the mainstream of the music business and entertainment. One of the biggest changes was the production of hip hop music. For example, the new hip hop music introduced song forms such as verses, hooks, and chorus, and consisted more musical features to create more dynamics in hip hop music. The major change in production was using “sampling” and increasing the use of the drum machine to create beats (Burr). These beats were then used as the basis for rap, which Tricia Rose defined it as “a technologically sophisticated and complex urban sound” (Rose 95). The rap became a center of the hip hop production during the mid-1980s. According to Rose, rap uses “collage, intertextuality, boasting, toasting, and signifying” for lyrical styles and organizations (Rose 64). Many hip hop artists use signifying to constitute lyrical style. Signifying means taking someone else’s words and turning them around. There are several features that constitute signifying: indirection, metaphor, irony, rhythmic, teachy, and punning. Thus, signifying enriches the lyrics to create a polished rap music. Secondly, the organization of rap is the rhythm, which is “the most perceptible and the least material thing” (Rose 64). In almost all hip hop music, the rhythms are mostly created by heavy bass or drum beats. By manipulating these beats, rappers can produce idiosyncratic rhythms and make their rap songs original. The rap’s lyrical styles and distinctive yet organized rhythms are the central qualities in formulating rap music.

The importance of teens and their music is what get teens through their day. Everyday traveling down the halls of school there are hundreds of people with headphones. Teens listen to music everyday and most teens can not live without it. Music is what teens understand and it does not matter what type of music it is. What types of music do teens listen to? Some music that teens listen to are rap, rock, country, gospel, contemporary christian and much more. Do particular music genres affect teens and their attitudes? “When teenagers use music as a mood-modifier, it can be used to reinforce and perpetuate negative emotions as well as positive emotions” (Allen, 2013). It is clear that music has an effect on teenagers' attitudes. The type of effect depends on the genre of music, with some genres causing positive effects and others negative effects.
