At the beginning of the story Ponyboy is cool and smart. Then at the beginning to be different. Ponyboy is a 14 year old boy who has two brothers their names are Darry and Sodapop. He realizes at the ending that being on another person's place is not so great as he thinks it will actually be. He has been like his brothers since the beginning. But at the end of the story he realizes that he should think and be for others. He had two of his friends died. He also got lonelier and lonelier each time. He also gets sadder and sadder each time too. So it’s pretty hard to be on the opposite place than the actual one you have sometimes. He was a happier person at the beginning. He never experienced as harsh as that. At the ending of the
Ponyboy was a bad kid, he fought against Socs and he even smoked a weed, which is a cigarette. Later on he got into worse trouble and had to hide. He wanted to change and be a different person. While he hid he was scared and frightened and was beginning to think of how he was doing in life, and his thoughts were not very well. After the church incident, he began to change a little.
His parents died when he was young. He was nurtured by his older brothers. Pony has to struggle at the bottom of the social ladder. Like the people around him, he has to fight, steal and scare little kids. However, Pony remained a pure heart, a golden heart. He only fights when he has to defend himself. He kept his heart of sympathy, understanding of others and think for the others. Like in when the church was burned, he understands the situation of the teacher and children. So he risked his life to safe the kids. The most straight forward example and conclusion of Pony’s good heart is the word of Johnny, “Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold…” Moreover, Ponyboy is a thinker. He can think for the opposite side of his gang, the Socs. Although the Socs almost drowned him, he can still understand the Socs and didn’t be blinded by the hate. He in the chaos and impulsive world can see through the surface of the conflict and see the core of the world that people are the same. That is really amazing and Ponyboy does have the board mind of a hero.
This story is mostly about Ponyboy, Johnny, Sodapop, Dally, Cherry, Darry and Two-bit. Ponyboy is the youngest one out of the group. He's only 14 years old. Everyone, except Cherry,Dally and Two-Bit live together and Darry is the oldest of the boys. Ponyboy and his brother Sodapop have been living with their brother Darry since their parents were killed in a car accident.
Ponyboy Curtis does not get a giant pair of scissors to cut a symbolic ribbon. He does not get the key to a city at the end of the Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton. Ponyboy does not obtain superhuman qualities but he is still the hero of the greasers. Ponyboy is self motivated and does not need anyone else’s or his own sympathy. Not only is Ponyboy self-motivated, but he is also thinking of the greasers, his friends and family, constantly and he is always finding more and more truths of everyone; Ponyboy is best informed on where problems come from and he knows best about what he should do for everyone else.

Throughout the course of The Outsiders, Ponyboy goes from a greaser that tries harder than the others, but goes on to mature even more than you think he would. This fact makes him a dynamic character, as a dynamic character is a character in a storyline that goes through big changes, whether good or bad. You may be confused as to what I am talking about, even though you should have read, but let me explain. Ponyboy Curtis, the main character of The Outsiders, matures throughout the course of the novel. With the actions that take place, Ponyboy experiences the way of life and how it works. While he does not become “tough” like Dallas or Two-Bit, or even his own brother Darrel, and while he does not mature in physical terms, he does in mental terms. Let me start from the beginning.
The Red Pony has many examples of when hard work doesn’t always ensure success. Through out the four chapters of the novel Jody goes through many difficult times. He is helped through these times by Billy Buck-the cow hand, Carl Tifflin-his father, and his mother Ruth Tifflin. The book teaches people a good lesson on many different themes a few are, respect you elders,
“But they couldn't, no matter how hard they tried, take the place of his parents. I thought about it for a minute- Darry and Sodapop were my brothers and I loved both of them, even if Darry did scare me; but not even Soda could take Mom and Dad's place. And they were my real brothers, not just sort of adopted ones.” (Hinton, 88). Pony may say that he hates his brothers at times, but he always ends up going back to them because he knows that they are all that he has. The love between these boys is unconditional and they will always have each other. “Then I saw Darry. He was leaning in the doorway… His fists were jammed in his pockets and his eyes were pleading… Suddenly I realized, horrified, that Darry was crying… I hadn't seen him cry in years, not even when Mom and Dad had been killed.” (Hinton, 98). This proves that Darry and Soda really do care about Pony, because the way the reacted to seeing him after this incident even brought them to tears because they were so happy to see that he was okay. If they really didn’t care, then they would have had someone in the gang go check in on him while they work. But no, they went and made sure that he was okay, no that is true love. On the other hand, some people think that he should go into the system because of the small thing that Darry and the gang does to
The Red Pony by author John Steinbeck is a very notable book for young adults. The central and recurring theme of the four stories told within this short novel is life and death. The stories also deal with conflict between old and new. Unlike most novels for young adults this book is different because John Steinbeck does not try to soften or hide old age and death, but instead presents these themes as they are in reality. The stories tell how the main character, Jody Tiflin, becomes more responsible as he deals with the disappointments and sadness, as well as the successes of real life.

Sodapop Patrick Curtis: Seventeen-year-old Sodapop backs up all of the personality he has with lots of heart. Like his brother older brother, Darry, he's movie-star handsome, and seeing to the fact that he's a Curtis, he's smart, which is was one thing that he never thought he was, forcing him to drop out of school. Along with his confusion of his smarts, he’s athletic, and hard working, although he never took sports as seriously as his youngest brother, Ponyboy and his oldest brother, Darry. Sodapop has a strong bond with his little and big brother, he never liked to fight with his siblings unlike the amount of fighting that they do, making everyones bond with Sodapop practically unbreakable. Pony’s feelings for Soda are entirely positive, no bad energy comes to mind when thinking of Sodapop. He idolizes and loves his older brother and sees how smart he truly is, even if he himself doesn’t realize it. At the start of the novel a main event that starts his change is when he is walking home from the movies he is thinking about the differences between Socs and Greasers, while hoping he doesn’t get jumped walking home all alone. A red Covair is following him and then Socs get out and surround Ponyboy. They cut him a couple times and threaten to kill him. “How’d you like that haircut to begin just below the chin?” Ponyboy isn’t sure if he is gonna live until The Socs run off and Darry picks him up. “I’m okay. Quit shaking me, Darry, I’m okay.” This is the first major experience that starts the major change in Ponyboys personality. He is still a bit shy and wanting a different life to the typical Greaser lifestyle and is hoping he can get out of it and do what he likes without all the violence like what he had just experienced. The Characteristics of Ponyboy and How They Developed inThe Outsiders by S. E. Hinton The novel "The Outsiders", by S.E. Hinton was based on a character called Ponyboy. He has long light-brown, almost red hair and greenish-grey eyes. It was normal for him to have long hair because he was classified as a "greaser", a boy on the East Side.
