Though Antony supported Creaser’s ambitions others in Rome did not. During the campaign in Gaul Caesar a lot of friction had built up between Caesar and the senators of Rome. This is one of the things that ultimately leads to the civil war with Pompey. During the war Pompey fled Rome and Caesar pursued him and eventual defeated him. Antony played a key part during the war and supported Caesar until its end. After the end of the war Caesar did not immediately return to Rome. He instead went to Egypt for a time. While Caesar was in Egypt he installed a new ruler on the throne of Egypt and her name was Cleopatra VII. He also took her as a lover and had a child with her by the name of Caesarion.
