It is possible that they're in charge of causing divisions in society by being too partisan or they don't stand for anything since they represent too many diverse interests. A Democratic Party long ruled by moderates and conservatives succeeded in stunting what seemed like the natural growth of a successful Republican Party until the 1990s. Since then, various forces have contributed to the growth of the Republicans, and in the end, to an altering of the core membership of each party. Most recently, the state has seen the development of a dominant Republican Party that doesn't yet hold quite the dominion the Democrats enjoyed through most of the twentieth century. The Republican Party has certainly benefited from the defection of former Democrats, the arrival of Republicans and independents from out of state, and organizational difficulties in the Democratic Party. Thus, Republican officials dominate state government, and Democrats find themselves reduced, for the present, to the status of an embattled minority party seeking to recreate themselves among their voting and financial constituencies. This is showing that the newfound Republican dominance can be the beginning of a new strong party system, or if we are in a state of transition in which the terms of political competition are still in change. There has been much speculation whether political parties have become too strong in American politics and if that is a good or bad thing. My belief is that political party power in the United States is just about right where I believe that there are some instances where political parties have been in situations where they have too much power and instances where it is moderate. Party is an inevitable feature of the democracy and it is defined as ‘an autonomous group of citizens having the purpose of making nominations and contesting elections in the hope of gaining control over governmental power through the capture of public offices and the organization of the government’ (Caramani, 2011, p.220). Parties are ubiquitous in modern political systems and they perform a number of functions, they are: coordination, contesting elections, recruitment, and representation (Caramani, 2011). Political parties are the product of the parliamentary and electoral game, and party systems reflect the social oppositions that characterize society when parties first appear (Coxall et al., 2011).
American states each have individual political cultures which are important to our understanding of their political environments, behavior, and responses to particular issues. While voters probably do not consciously think about political culture and conform to that culture on election day, they seem to form cohesive clusters in different areas of the state, creating similar group political ideologies. Because of these similarities, it is possible to measure the dominant political culture within states or areas of a state, gaining insight into the mind-set of state residents. Whatever the state culture, whether liberal or conservative, participatory or exclusive, political culture identifies dominant, state-wide trends. The question remains whether there is an accurate way to measure this political culture phenomenon in the United States.
In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year’s election results and costs. Finally, I will discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics.

In retrospect, it seems like a natural progression, though it didn’t feel like it along the way.” Although Haley Barbour made the previous comments about the rise of the Republican Party in Mississippi, Nash and Taggart point out that his comments can be generalized to every aspect of the Mississippi politics. I agree that over the decades Mississippi politics has evolved, through a slow natural progression, to become what it is today. While the changes have been vast, I agree with Nash and Taggart’s point that producing a substantive change to the future of Mississippi politics will be a battle that is hard fought and one that is led by leaders who are not afraid to push the issue.
As individuals, we turn towards political parties to identify with a group that has the most in common with our own values and principals. Each political party’s agenda focuses on the primary interests affiliated with that party and is motivated to enact its beliefs and interests through legislation by electing officials into government. Texas is a large state with four political parties: Republican, Democratic, Green Party, and Libertarian. Each political party has a basic fundamental ideology and platform on current issues. The two major political parties in Texas and in the nation are the Republican and Democratic parties.Texas is a conservative state where the Republican Party has known success as the leading political party in Texas for recent years. It’s basic ideology can be described as conservative, Christian, and for the idea that government should play a minimum role in the lives of citizens. Republicans also believe in less government spending and taxation. The 25-page Texas Republican Platform is a detailed document that outlines the party’s beliefs and values and legislative goals. It contains a preamble and 9 principals that are stated briefly at the beginning and then later elaborated on in detail. It closes with party legislative goals. The Republican Party’s points of interest are: Strong Families, Limited Government, Opportunity For All, Personal Responsibility, Rugged Individualism, Principled Innovative Leadership, Honest Compassion, Quality Education, and Freedom as outlined on the party’s website. To define the terminology of federalism to a simplistic way is the sharing of sovereignty between the national government and the local government. It is often described as the dual sovereignty of governments between the national and the local to exert power in the political system. In the US it is often been justified as one of the first to introduce federalism by the ‘founding fathers’ which were developed in order to escape from the overpowered central government. However, federalism in the United States is hitherto uncertain where the power lies in the contemporary political system. In this essay I will outline and explain how power relationship alternates between states and federal government. Moreover I will also discuss my perspective by weighing the evidence based upon resources. Based on these resources, it will aid me to evaluate the recent development in the federal-state relationship.
The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of many different levels. The question comes in to everyone's mind at one time or another whether or not to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take advantage of their power, or simply people don't like the idea of being controlled by someone who is not a family member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the government is divided into stages and this is a reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it does deserve to be trusted.
There is much debate in the United States regarding whether there is polarization between our two dominant political parties. Many American’s conceptualization of the country’s legislative process is based on their understanding of the actions of Congress, which comprises of the US House of Representative and Senate. For the past 8 years or so, the country has been experiencing a political gridlock occasioned by the Democrats and Republicans desire to demonstrate their superiority over each other. The spirit of compromise has seemingly deserted members of the two parties. This has resulted in a difficulty in passing laws. However, the current political gridlock was not manufactured at the federal. On the other hand, it was promoted at the state level. In this regard, the observation that although much of the blame for the current gridlock in the country falls on the U.S. House and Senate, the State Legislatures are actually more to blame for the current political climate is extremely valid.
The United States is in a tough position as far as politics go, there is a massive hindrance in the form of political parties. For many years now there has been a two party system, this has never been a good idea nor has it really worked. The ideas of the people haven’t been completely represented, there has been issues with getting necessary bills passed, and there is the issue of people not really knowing what a candidate stands for just what the party stands for.
