Whenever people read poetry it takes into another planet, wonder how? Most authors of poetry have managed to take people into places they never seen before. Their use of imagery can describe both a majestic place or a nightmare on earth, and anything in between. For example, the use of metaphors can connect objects, or places to another, and as a result a metaphor can uncover new and fascinating advantages of the original thing. Another example is alliteration that provides importance, and sometimes supports in memory because it is catchy and perhaps humorous. In the magical world of poetry, all the rules of formal writing go out the window and create a piece of art, something that is entirely unique. Poetry is also very unique because it rarely uses characters; instead it uses literary devices that describe everything in depth. Overall, poetry uses many ways and methods to intrigue its readers to what more and more poetry. With hundreds of spectacular poets we have today it is made possible.
“Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night” by: Dylan Thomas uses repetition, allusions, and tone effectively. The meaning of the poem is don’t death take over you. Always fight on, even during the last few minutes of your life. The author describes how he lost his father because he was calm and gentle. One figurative element in the poem is repetition because when the line, “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” (19) The repetition emphases on how it is important to not let death take over you calm and easily. Instead you should die kicking and screaming fighting off death. Another example is, “Do not go gentle into that good night.” It means don’t be gentle and calm when your time comes. Overall, this poem shows that how life can always be a tricky obstacle, and how life has powers to ruin your day or make it he best day in your life.
The poems that were written above were especially good, because they all thought life lessons of what you should do and what not to do. The tone of “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” showed the author’s feeling toward death is a very strong dislike, because death is taking over his dad. The theme of “Paid in Full” showed that doing unlawful things to get money is extremely wrong. Instead he went to go look for a job, which was the right path to earn his respectfully earned money. The personification in “Carry me through” showed how life is like unstable person and you never know what life can bring you. Whenever people read poetry it takes into another planet.
