I have been interested in studying Pharmacy since my experience in my home country of Eritrea highlighted by the basic health care system existing there, and I have had the first-hand experience of how the lack of medication affects a community's health. When I moved to the UK and studied GCSE Science I was further convinced that pharmacy is the career that I wanted to pursue. This shaped my choice of A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Working in a pharmaceutical field will give me the opportunity to make a difference in the community health. I consider myself suitable for this role.
My study in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry in A-levels provided me with key knowledge, which I could apply in Pharmacy. Mathematics has improved

my analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, as I will be using the knowledge that I acquired and apply to a Pharmaceutical environment, for example calculating the accurate dosage of medication. Furthermore, in Chemistry I find Optical Isomerism a fascinating concept, as different optical isomers can interact differently with the human body, for example, Thalidomide. While one enantiomer has sedative effects but the other causes birth defects if given to pregnant women. This knowledge is used to make safer and effective drugs. In Chemistry and Biology, I did various experiments, which required a good deal of investigative and evaluative skills. This provided me the ability needed to do practical research. During my holiday, I organized a work experience placement in a community Pharmacy.
During my time in the Pharmacy, I found it to be rewarding, informative and a beneficial experience as it gave me an insight of how a local pharmacy operates. It also showed me how varied a pharmacist's roles are, not do only pharmacists dispense medicinal drugs but offer information about healthy lifestyles like stop-smoking programmes and sexual health. The biggest responsibility of a Pharmacist is to make sure the dosages of the medicine is accurate and correct instructions given to the patient about a prescription. Furthermore, I learnt that teamwork is vital to maximise the completion of tasks. I also learnt that verbal communication is essential to improve understanding between patients and pharmacists. To educate myself about what pharmacist do in their everyday practice I read pharmacy times. My duties were to check expiry dates of medicines, insert invoices into the computer and help the pharmacists with dispensing drugs. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and looking forward to embarking on a career as a pharmacist. I am currently working as a volunteer with British Heart Foundation as a sales assistant. This has enhanced my ability to interact with different people with different personalities. These traits are crucial for a Pharmacist as I will be meeting a variety of customers and offering them an advice on their prescription. This accomplishment makes me feel that I made a
positive contribution to the community as I am doing something personally, for a good cause and this gives me a great sense of fulfilment. During my time in high school, I graduated from an outstanding learning programme, where I needed to have grades that are over my targets for all of my subjects, 100% attendance and perfect punctuality etc. This achievement entitled me to become school ambassador. I was also was an EAL (English as an Additional Language) mentor where I used peer mentor newly-arrived students in the UK and help them with their schoolwork. I also use to offer translation services in my mother tongue to parents and students. This has improved my skill to build rapport. In my spare time, I go to the gym, play for a football team and play the piano. I am a hard-working, enthusiastic and motivated individual, who has a mature outlook in life. I am looking forward to the challenges that university offers and an exciting career in Pharmacy.
About two years ago my closest friend passed away. As I sat at her bedside in the hospital I was shocked to see her in that stricken position. I wondered why was this happening to her?Why was she suffering needlessly? Since I was the age of 16, I have had the desire to help others. It first started with my neighbor Cheryl Conel. Cheryl was an intimately close neighbor of mine who I used to work for. As the years went by Cheryl and I became closer and our friendship strengthened considerably. She became my first strong female role model. Cheryl became very ill one day and learned that she had a Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. This bacteria presented very suddenly and quickly caused her to lapse into a coma. I didn't understand at the time just how ill she was-- in my mind I thought she was going to recover and go home soon. I quickly learned that this bacteria is very difficult to eradicate and about a week later on December 9th 2009, Cheryl passed away. I was extremely devastated because I had just lost my mentor and my best friend. I wanted to learn mo...
• Organize inventory and alert pharmacists to any shortages of medications or supplies • Accept payment for prescriptions and process insurance claims • Enter customer or patient information, including any prescriptions taken, into a computer system • Answer phone calls from customers • Arrange for customers to speak with pharmacists if customers have questions about medications or health matters Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of pharmacists, who must review prescriptions before they are given to patients. In most states, technicians can compound or mix medications and call physicians for prescription refill authorizations. Technicians also may need to operate automated dispensing equipment when filling prescription orders. Pharmacy technicians working in hospitals and other medical facilities prepare a greater variety of medications, such as intravenous medications.
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. I desire to pursue a career in Pharmacy so as to gain practical experience in these aspects of research.
In addition to improving my skills, I was able to gain knowledge on many instruments that are used to for the services that the pharmacy provides. This role has involved working with vulnerable people such as young adults, the elderly, children and disability; thus I am able to communicate effectively and with flair with patients. Carrying out these tasks gave me a taster of working in the environment. It advanced my attentiveness in mental health and the different physical health disorders. Thus reinforcing my interests of healthcare and has making me well-aware of the reality of health
Filling a Prescription In a Retail Environment By a Pharmacy Technician Most of the population requires some sort of medication to keep themselves healthy. Not everyone knows the full process of filling a prescription. This will explain in detail the step by step procedure in filling a prescription inside a pharmacy work area. These steps are performed by the technician, and then checked by the pharmacist to make sure all steps were performed correctly. Only then, does the medication get dispensed to the patient.
During the tenure of five years of undergraduate program I studied variety of different courses including Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pathology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacognosy, etc. but always found myself more inclined towards pharmacology, physiology and pharmacotherapy of all the different courses I studied and with passing time my interest just grew stronger. In the commencement of undergraduate program, studying different drugs and their mechanisms, diseases and modes of their therapy was merely an interest but by the time my undergraduate degree program ended it became more of a passion. It was for this passion that I decided to pursue a post graduation degree in the respective field. Before I could go any further in academics I wanted to have some practical exposure and consequently, I decided to join a hospital rather than a pharmaceutical industry. Hence, after fighting off a tough competition from all over the country I was recruited among the twenty pharmacy graduates in a year lengthy “On-the-Job Hospital Pharmacist Trainee Program” in July 2013 and currently, I am working as a trainee pharmacist in the most preeminent hospital of the country, Aga Khan Ho...
I enjoy figuring out exactly how much of a medication a doctor prescribed a patient, retrieving the medication, and filling the exact dosage that the patient needs. It gives me such satisfaction that I am helping patients feel well each and every day. This desire to help others feel well drives me to want to learn more about the profession. I hope that by attending pharmacy school, I will enhance my knowledge of different types of medications and will be able to determine which drugs interact with one another so that I can consult with patients about their
Pharmacy is a combination of biological and chemical aspects of science providing quality care to patients hence is a perfect aspiration for me. Studying chemistry has provided me with analytical skills which would be beneficial when furthering my studies. Aspirin is a dependent drug manufactured by ethanoic anhydride and salicylic acid; medicine would be incomplete without these chemicals available today allowing drug manufacture. Pharmacy is based on working with drugs therefore I aim to develop pre-existing knowledge via entering this field.

I know that being a pharmacist will be hectic at times, but taking the time and the patience to understand and develop relationships will lead to less misunderstanding and stress. Due to the age and health conditions of some of the campers, I have learned not to take things for granted because I have learned first-hand that life is too short. When I become a pharmacist, I hope to provide medication to others so that their lives are not cut too short. Camp Goodtimes has shown me that making small gestures such as a hug or a compliment create a larger impact on others than any materialistic items ever could. Thus, the reason I want to become a pharmacist is so that I can make and do little things, such as filling prescriptions, which will have a larger impact on people, such as preventing pain or altering their
"Diagnosis is not the end, but the beginning of practice" -Martin H. Fischer. With that quote in my mind, I am eager to begin my residency training, looking forward to expand my knowledge base, becoming more adept in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and gaining the experience necessary to become a well-rounded, confident physician. From the very beginning, I’ve been surrounded by people working in the medical field who had a great influence upon me and upon my decision to become a doctor. They inspired me and showed me how serving patients and giving back to the community offers personal satisfaction and meaning. Particularly my family, my dad who is a professor of Clinical Pharmacy and my mother who is a pharmacist, they are the corner stone of my life.
Pharmacy has been around since the dawn of time, cave men would use their natural instincts and observation of nature to learn how to tend to their wounds and illnesses. However, most people never considered this to be Pharmacy. Typically, when people think of Pharmacists they think of a shriveled old man behind a counter handing out bags of pills all day. Even worse, when people think of Pharmacy or Pharmaceuticals they think of people like Martin Shkreli. A cooperate big shot who only wants to produce medications for profit, instead of helping people with illnesses or life threatening diseases. If people were to dig deeper into the realm of Pharmacy they would uncover the misconceptions behind the
My true passion lies in helping others in a safe and effective way with the use of innovative pharmaceutical medicines. I have become inspired by my personal ambition of becoming a Pharmacist as I aspire to improve people’s daily lives. I am extremely looking forward to embarking upon my life-long learning career in Pharmacy and I will strive towards my goal by engaging in activities which will benefit me in Higher Education. I am currently volunteering at Tesco’s Pharmacy, which I believe will enable me to gain an invaluable firsthand knowledge about useful medicines. I believe that the subjects that I have studied at A Level, these being French, Human Biology, English Literature and Psychology have allowed me to pick up a variety of key
