Pharmacy Case Study

Working in the pharmaceutical industry, there are different types of environments you could possibly work in. There are chain pharmacies, like any kind of grocery store or CVS. There are franchise pharmacies, which are also known as apothecaries. Also, there are community pharmacies, which are also known as retail pharmacies. Some of them are independent pharmacies, which is usually owned by a pharmacist or a group of pharmacists.. There are hospital pharmacies, in which are in the hospital. There are many more different types, these are only a few. To start off, chain pharmacies which are sort of like community or retail pharmacies are places such as; CVS, Walgreens, Publix, any grocery store, etc. If you ever ask a pharmacist or pharmacy technician that works in this kind of environment, most likely they will tell you “it’s all about the people.” For over 22 years, pharmacists have ranked near the top of the Gallup Poll

Kasie said while she is working she has to reconstitute medication, compounding IV/fluid drips, pull single dose P.O. medications and oral syringes for patients to be delivered to med rooms, check for expired drugs, and package unit dose medication. She said she enjoys working in the environment very much. The dress code is to wear vestex scrubs, which are antimicrobial and bodily fluid/fluid resistant. According to Kasie, the most difficult part about her job was learning her way around the hospital and remembering where every med room was located. This is Kasie’s first hospital pharmacy tech job, she loves it! Her inspiration was that she has always been fascinated with medications and how they work, she is also amazed by the human body and science. She is a certified technician, because, where she is working she is required to be certified as well as registered, and it looks better on a resumé.
