General purpose: To persuade
Specific purpose: To persuade my audience to take care of our sleep duration as it may affect our daily life.
Central idea : Sleep is vital to our health and well-being throughout our life, therefore, in order to protect our mental and physical health, quality of life, and safety, we must get an enough quality sleep at the right times.

A. What did you do during SDL or when you have a long lunch break? Did you use the time to study? Or sleep?
B. Sleep is just as important as diet and exercise.

Teens need about 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function best. Most teens do not get enough sleep. One study found that 85% students didn’t get enough sleep on school nights.
2. Teens tend to have irregular sleep patterns across the week. They typically stay up late on the weekends, which can affect their biological clocks and hurt the quality of their sleep.
E. Sleep deficiency can affect us over time or it can occur in an instant.
1. Many teens suffer from treatable sleep disorders, such as insomnia and restless legs syndrome.
F. Today, I hope to persuade each of you to take care of our sleep duration as it may affect our daily life.
G. Because sleep is vital to our well-being, we have to make sure to get an enough quality sleep at the right times as it helps to protect our mental and physical health, quality of life and safety.

A. An extra hour of sleep could make a difference in our life, whether it is an extra hour of oversleeping or extra hour of sleep loss. Studies show that the gap between getting just enough sleep and getting too little sleep may affect our health, mood, weight, and even our sex …show more content…

Obesity: Our weight also depends on our sleep duration. Studies show that people who slept for 9-10 hours are more likely exposed to obesity compared to those who slept between 7-8 hours. Even when food intake and exercise were taken into account, this link between sleep and obesity stayed the same.
c. Heart disease: The Nurses’ Health Study proved that women who slept 9-11 hours per night were 38% more likely to have coronary heart disease as compares to women who slept 8 hours.
3. Everyone knows that sleep loss can make you feel sullen and confused. But there is a surprising effect of sleep loss that we might not know
a. Lack of sleep may cause an accident. As you get drowsy, your reaction becomes slow as much as driving drunk.
i. According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is estimated that fatigue is a cause in 100,000 auto crashes and 1,550 crash-related deaths a year in the U.S.
b. Lack of sleep ages our skin. Some of you may have an experienced of missed sleep due to study or watching movies, you may have noticed that your eyes become puffy and dark circle appeared under your eyes. But you have to take note that chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin and fine lines.
