2. Teens tend to have irregular sleep patterns across the week. They typically stay up late on the weekends, which can affect their biological clocks and hurt the quality of their sleep.

Obesity: Our weight also depends on our sleep duration. Studies show that people who slept for 9-10 hours are more likely exposed to obesity compared to those who slept between 7-8 hours. Even when food intake and exercise were taken into account, this link between sleep and obesity stayed the same.

b. Lack of sleep ages our skin. Some of you may have an experienced of missed sleep due to study or watching movies, you may have noticed that your eyes become puffy and dark circle appeared under your eyes. But you have to take note that chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin and fine lines.

Sleep deprivation is a common condition that occurs if you don’t get enough sleep. In case of sleep deprivation people have trouble falling and staying asleep for a long period of time. In order to understand how serious sleep deprivation can be, one must need to know causes and consequences of sleep deprivation, how much sleep do we need? What does sleep do for us? And how we can cure sleep deprivation.
Chronic sleep loss is becoming more common in modern culture and less restricted to sleep-deprived diseases such as insomnia. Suggested to be the result of a number car, industrial, medical, and other occupational accidents, sleep deprivation is beginning to be recognized as a public concern. Sleep is one of our basic needs to survive and to function in day to day operations, but not everyone needs the same amount of sleep. Some people can survive on very little sleep, i.e. five hours a night, and some people need a lot of sleep, to the extend that they are sleeping up to 10 to sometimes 15 hours a night (Nature, 2005). According to Wilson (2005) the general rule states that most people need from seven to eight hours of sleep. The deprivation of sleep in our society in continually increasing with the demands in society increasing work loads, the myth that a few hours of sleep is only necessary to function properly and that sleep is sometimes considered as killing time (Nature, 2005). Sometimes sleep deprivation is also caused by other situations like sleep disorders, i.e. sleep apnea, chronic insomnia or medical conditions such as stress (Wilson, 2005).
Sleep deprivation is a severe problem that can cause a variety of negative effects in everyday lives. Sleep is required for our survival and relied on for our mental and physical wellbeing. Because there is a greater awareness of the problems associated with sleep deprivation, our society is very fortunate to have the resources to seek the help that is needed.
Getting sufficient sleep is a basic human need and is vital for life. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, sleep is a high priority for survival. Having enough sleep is therefore important to restore body and brain functions, preserve energy, maintain general well-being and prevent illnesses.
There have been many different outlooks and theories on how sleep deprivation can affect health. Sleep deprivation is when a person cannot sleep, and does not have enough sleep. This is also known as ‘wakefulness’ (sleep.2014) and not having enough sleep; ‘lack of sleep’. This literature review will cover four main concepts of sleep deprivation. The key ideas in this paper would be the research done and how many hours a person is supposed to sleep, some disorders and what loss of sleep will do to a person.
Fifty to seventy million U.S. adults were reported with sleep and/or wakefulness disorder in 2010? This is caused by lack of sleep throughout an entire population of people. Many people think there are more important matters to take care of rather than just sleep. Sleep helps the body and mind focus while awake and functioning. Enough rest is quite crucial to being awake during the day. Enough sleep is important because it keeps people awake and focused during the day, even though people’s sleep requirements vary, and how lack of sleep affects the body and mind.

Important public policy issues have arisen in our modern 24-hour society, where it is crucial to weigh the value of sleep versus wakefulness. Scientific knowledge about sleep is currently insufficient to resolve the political and academic debates raging about how much and when people should sleep.
