Dogs Adoption
Adoption of dogs is becoming a popular way of getting a much-needed pet. One can adopt a dog from a rescue or a shelter. About 8-12 million animals end up in shelters or rescues in the United States every year. About 4-6 million are then euthanized. Approximately 3.2 million of the animals in shelters and rescues are adopted every year. Adopting a pet is a much easier method than purchasing one (Lampe & Witte 357). From the many animals that are put down humanely, a great amount of them could have been adopted and taken into a new home. Although some of them might be ill, there always is some way of treatment to cure them. It, therefore, makes sense that one adopts a dog from a shelter or rescue.

It is important to be aware of what dog breed one is adopting because it totally depends on one’s lifestyle. Some dogs are not suitable for families, for example hunting dogs, since they are used in settings like countrysides where they are always active and running around. When such a dog is kept at home with no activities, they tend to get behavioral issues. One should consider the age of the dog and whether it is good with kids and around people. Some dogs when left at home alone develop anxiety and this later emanates into behavioral issues (Reese et al. 58). Some of the famous breeds are Pugs, Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Bull Dogs, and greyhounds. It totally depends on one’s lifestyle and every dog has its own personality.
