The effect of everyones carbon footprint
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
The world in which we live in at the moment has become poisonous. It has been poisoned by the human species’ daily survival activities. Humans around the world have taken for granted the daily impact that we have on the natural world. It all boil down to each and every breath that we take. Each and every breath that we exhale releases poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere. Until when our existence becomes absent, the world will remain poisoned. Carbon footprint can be defined as the amount of greenhouse gases an individual produces at a time through diverse activities. A person’s carbon footprint is the sum of all emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), which were induced by an individual’s daily activities for a given time frame. CO2 is one of the many greenhouse gases that are responsible for causing global warming which we are currently experiencing today. Carbon footprint is an extremely powerful tool which we can utilize to understand the impact that our personal activities have on global warming. Through …show more content…
Based on Laurel Nesbit, a program assistant in the Office of Sustainability here at UF, our campus manages to utilize 470,000 Megawatts of energy annually. This figure is generated from all the energy-consuming gadgets that operate on our campus on a daily bases. These gadgets include computers that are left turned on over the night even they are not in use, copiers, and the fume hoods in our laboratories. Admittedly, the success and the health of wellbeing of the students is contingent upon some of these equipment. For instance, the laboratories need the fume hoods in order to keep the experimenters safe. Instead of casting these necessities away, we can develop alternatives which will be capable of generating energy in order to compensate for the electricity that we endlessly
Before a person can tackle handling the concept of global warming, they first must analyze the true definition of what it is. Climate change periodic modification of Earth’s climate brought about as a result of changes in the atmosphere as well as interactions between the atmosphere and various other geologic, chemical, biological, and geographic factors within the Earth 's system. (britannica) Since all 196 countries in the world have to share the oxygen and carbon dioxide, we all should take a part in the responsibility of taking care of earth. On November 6, 2012 President Obama said that we want our children to live in a world without the destructive power of a warming planet. The biggest challenge we face is not only saving a warming
Ban-Ki-Moon release a resonate truth, “Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all” . One of the sole purposes for the Environment Protection Agencies is to give sufficient protection and stop the dangers in our environment such as water, air and wasteland. Over decals, we have heard some torrent reports on how the environmental problems in this nation has increased and has its negative effect has created endangerment to the humanity. The Flint Water Crisis, is a perfect example; and over 100,000 citizens were exposed to high levels of lead and today, many are dealing with some serious health
Climate change can affect everyone in many different ways, take for example the summertime heat. Think of the hottest day you’ve ever experienced throughout your life, the hot sun beating down on you and the only thing you’re thinking of is “how long do I have to deal with this?” Well, with the current effects taking place due to excessive amounts of greenhouse gases and use of non renewable resources going on, after a certain period of time that weather will be a whole 12 degrees hotter than it is today. So imagine that same day, the heat you had dealt with, except a whole 12 degrees even hotter, that is the kind of heat we are going to be dealing with if we do not change the way we are handling things. If for some reason we don 't stop, then we should at
In order to reverse the effects of global warming, we must stop using fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas immediately and switch to alternative fuels such as solar and wind.
One of the most prevalent issues discussed in today’s society is global warming, it has gathered international attention over the past few years due to the increase of temperature throughout the world. Scientists believe that if global warming is not dealt with seriously, within the next few years it may cause excessive glacier melting in which turn would end up flooding cities along coasts, heats and droughts, and crop failure. With these catastrophic consequences it is essential for governments across the world to do their part in ensuring steps are taken to prevent further warming from happening. Global warming is a risk to humans of all nations because it is not exclusive to any region of the world, and it will affect the plants, animals and weather in all nations. Restrictions need to be set in order to prevent or limit the amount of fossil fuels countries emit, preserve more forests, and limit other activities that heavily contribute to the release of
Global warming! It’s killing our planet. Wake up America! Our planet as we know it is coming to an end! Why you may ask? Good question. I am just like you. I always thought global warming would just heat up our planet and that’s all. I did not realize how wrong I was. Have you ever wondered why our planet is having areas with major droughts, or why our planet is getting unusually hot, or even wondered why there are such weird weather conditions that are very unusual? Ranging from the devastating floods in China and the Philippines to droughts in Africa, the same extreme weather patterns that have hit the United States! There is a new report that says climate change has. annually, caused 400,000 deaths and
Climate change is a dilemma in which anticipated too long to resolve, Earth will forever be damaged; bringing life on Earth to a permanent transition in an unfavorable state. With many contributing factors to climate change, humans have generated numerous amounts of damage, rather than showing an effort to save the atmosphere. Surprisingly, climate change is a contributing factor on human lifespan, potentially lowering the average amount of time each human spends on Earth. On the contrary, many organizations like Greenpeace have scrutinized climate change and found affordable ways in cleaning our environment. Organizations similar to Greenpeace offer a very reasonable price that could transpire economies positively rather than negatively.
When problems arise, we take notice, even if it’s just our neighboring states. We have worked to save the population of not only humans, but all living things. I believe we are starting to truly notice what we have caused.
In 2007, the world consumed 5.3 billion tons of coal, 31.1 billion tons of oil, 2.92 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, and 65,000 tons of uranium. All of these energy needs could have been met with only 6,600 tons of thorium, an abundant, slightly radioactive element found in the Earth’s crust.
Climate change, or global warming, is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth Climate change has been a topic that has been talked about for awhile now If it is happening, if it is not, if humans cause it, and if it is happening naturally Humans could be causing it by the many things we do, but the earth could be going through natural cycles which is causing climate change. There is evidence to support all of these arguments. Even scientists are having arguments about whether it is occuring or not. In 2010 Climate Depot released a report featuring more than 1,000 scientists, who disagree that humans are primarily responsible for global climate change. I am going to tell you everything that you need to know about climate change.
In the first semester of college, I was enrolled in a flex dedicated to Biology majors and Kinesiology. So we all had something in common. The concept that I learned most was that humans actually induce pollution themselves. This year we were able to go on a field trip to a location in Los Angeles where there was an oil drill that contaminated the air and everything around it and the residents of the area were blind to it. This then made me want to dig deeper into which ways we pollute our environment and this is what I found. There are about 7 ways in which we induce pollution and that is through air, water, soil, noise, thermal, plastic, and radioactive pollution. Many of us that are uneducated in the environmental sciences do not realize that we are making the Earth’s
Global warming has been a major issue for the past few decades. Some people believe there is not enough evidence to support it. Future generations will suffer the consequences if everyone does not cooperate to reduce the effects of Global warming. Carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles and factories trap the sun's heat in the atmosphere which causes global temperatures to rise, melting of polar ice caps, and extreme weather patterns.
Global warming is increasing temperature amongst the Earth where climate change is constantly happening because it is affecting the oceans as well as the natural environments. The Earth is constantly heating up is very detrimental to human beings because chemicals are let off into the universe where the sun rays are trapped beneath the Earth’s surface and in the air. It is a natural recurring process that can lead to erosion and the issue is going unnoticed. As the surface is heating up, places that have a lot of ice can leak into the granite. Due to the decreased temperatures in these areas, it can freeze between the rocks and as the average temperature from global warming is increasing, it can melt the frozen water. As a result, it will leave more space for the same process to happen again, which will drive the plates apart. We’ve been hearing about Global Warming for many decades, and we’ve been ignoring the issue. It is caused by an overload of Carbon Dioxide that is trapped within the earth. Global Warming is the Earth’s
{intro} The United States of America is the leading contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions from aviation, with aircraft being the third largest source of emissions in its transportation sector (Harder and Ostrower). When the topic of emissions and travel comes up, a considerable number of people default to looking only at vehicles for ground travel such as cars, trucks, and trains, but aircraft are also large contributors to the growing issues of air pollution and the exhaustion of non-renewable energy sources. While the topics of climate change and the mass destruction of the environment for personal gain are still being debated, the consequences of this nation’s extensive dependence on fossil fuels and other toxic energy sources are
A new Pentagon report mentioned that global warming is one of the urgent and growing threat to “national security”(Nakamura, 2015, para 1). Presidential contender/Senator/ Bernie Sanders also pointed out that “global warming, not terrorism or nuclear weapon proliferation or Chinese hacking, is the biggest threat facing the country”(Follett, 2015, para 1). Global warming contributes to the death of 400,000 people a year and costing the world more than $1.2 trillion, which is about 1.6% of the annual global GDP (Harvey, 2012, para 4). Raising social awareness about the effect of global warming is the first step to avert the damaging consequences.Today, I would like to present to you what causes global warming, the effects of global warming on weather conditions
