The fourth amendment states, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”(Constitution) After the tragic events of September 11, 2001 airport security has been going through many updates to address the possible attacks on planes. Airport security was put into federal hands after the event and they have been more and more rigorous with body and bag searches. It has been stated in many articles and federal court cases how “unconstitutional” airport security pat downs and body scans are. “Although the constitutionality of airport screening searches is not dependent on consent, the scope of such searches is not limitless,” wrote a federal court (U.S. Court of Appeals, Washington). …show more content…

Also, passengers are selected at random for additional security screening of their carry on and other items. Recently a passenger tried to light a shoe bomb on a plane passengers are required to remove their shoes. The two main security regulations that cause the most controversy are the body and bag screenings. These strict security measures make traveling less convenient and many people opt to stay home even. The courts try to overlook many complaints to airport security because it is for the peoples’ safety. With the intense body pat downs and full body scanners there is a strong argument that these security measures violate our 4th amendment
