Personal Worldview and Course Essay

Not to sound like a mother’s boy, I will courageously say that my mother had the most influence on my life and the way I see the world, or have at least come to know it. My mother was a fighter in every sense of the word, even during her illness that took her life back in 1989. Even though I only had her for 19 years of my own life, she was a true blessing; I blame her for the goodness that has been instilled in me.

Author James Sire is indeed correct in stating “worldviews are a matter of the heart” (Sire, 2009, p. 20) that is the way my mother lived her life, from the heart. My mother taught me about the nature of God (Sire, 2009, p. 27) and that he is good (Sire, 2009, p. 30) all the time. Along with that basic fundamental lesson on life, she also taught that the world can be a dangerous place and that there will be times one will need to stand up and fight for what is right and just. My mother was always for the underdog, loved many unconditionally, and was always quick to forgive. Maybe that is why the Good Lord took her at such a young age.

My worldview, given to me by my mother is this: God is our creator and is the one in charge of everything (Sire, 2009, p. 31), we live to serve him and serve others. Mankind is inherently good, but through the fall of man (Sire, 2009, p. 38) is capable of many evils. As such, we must be on guard of those evils in our everyday lives, and be prepared to fight against them. Not only must we be willing to fight, we must also be willing to forgive. And lastly, we must remain steadfast in the faith that our Good Lord will restore mankind to that inherent goodness (Sire, 2009, p. 41). ... Expect To Gain From This Course?

For the past three years I have been on quite a spiritual journey to find the truth about God and Jesus Christ without the influence of a denomination. My expectations are simple, I wish to learn more about who he is, his nature, and his influence on mankind. I hope to learn about the battle he wages daily against the god of the earth and his plan to make things right again. Lastly, I desire insight into my own psyche and spirit for better understanding of what makes me up as a person.

My excitement for this course, I guess one could say, centers around my desire to improve my relationship with Christ. Ultimately, I look forward to seeing what further truths can be uncovered in this amazing, never-ending journey called life.
