Reason of project initiating: Being a progressive company there were a lot of responsibilities on each individual. One such responsibility came upon me when Rancon Engineering Ltd was awarded a contract for the design & construction of 6-storey residential building, Rangs Heritage, which is at Uttara in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

My approach towards the project work: My undergraduate engineering knowledge on design and construction helped me to initiate the project. First of all, I had to choose the appropriate structural system of the proposed Residential Building. The objective was to produce a set of structural drawings based on the architectural drawings and soil investigation reports, and then based on that drawings, I had to construct the building within the given time. The Design needed to be supported by calculations those were based on standard codes of practice & submitted to head of design for approval. The design should be cost-effective and meet all the architectural requirements. This project entailed using my geotechnical engineering knowledge, reinforced concrete design knowledge and construction

I was needed to communicate with local communities and inform them about the project work. I also made open discussion with them to minimize the construction hazards. I used to communicate with housing authority ‘RAJUK’ (Dhaka city regulatory authority) for getting approval of plan and design. Apart from this, apartment owners frequently visited the sites. My duties were to listen to their problems and try to solve them within the engineering boundaries. I also had to brief them regarding the progress of the project and answer any query to satisfy their
I got a wonderful opportunity to work for one of the best construction companies, which is Hathaway Dinwiddie. Hathaway Dinwiddie has been in construction industry for over 100 years. Back then they started as Dinwiddie construction and been a part of a lot of historic buildings in California. Hathaway Dinwiddie has an expertise in Building information modeling (BIM), Partnered delivery and lean construction, Design-Build, Quality Control, Best Value exploration, Sustainability and safety. Hathaway Dinwiddie has a history of using BIM back in 1998 and now they are using it at every stage of their projects. They use BIM to summarize quantity surveys, develop preliminary construction strategies and maintain coordination between their team and their partners. Hathaway Dinwiddie provides services like General Construction, Preconstruction, Design Build, Construction Management and Interior and special projects. Hathaway also believes in being one step ahead of its competitor and has been investing in the research and development field also.
It is somewhat by accident that I find myself drawn towards the field of Construction Science. I have always enjoyed building with an incorporation of moving parts. When I was young, I started building toy cars, airplanes, dinosaurs, and everything an eight-year-old boy would imagine. It was like striking gold! I could build tracks, and cars with wheels to go on the tracks. I could even build towers with moving parts that reached the living room ceiling. Needless to say this unassuming box of used gadgets fostered a growing excitement towards construction and architecture. As my knowledge of the field grew, so did my curiosity about the assembly and preparation it takes to build useful assets like houses, hotels, even parking garages. I am pursuing a degree in Construction Science, which encompasses not only creating new spheres of urban development, but also a supporting a structure that helps a community grow. After attending Blinn College, I feel the need to expand my knowledge in the field of architecture by attending the highly credited University of Texas A&M.
Asmar et al. (2013) found that IPD has been gaining recognition due to the various benefits it offers to the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry and that much research has not been done to gauge the performance of IPD projects in contrast with other project delivery systems such as design-bid-build, design-build and construction management at risk systems. The metrics that are used to analyze the performance of IPD according to Mollaoglu-Korkmaz, Swarup and Riley (2011) are cost, quality, schedule performance, and owners perception of post-occupancy performance)
Construction is a collaborative activity. By using the knowledge and experience of people we can meet the needs of today and tomorrow. But simply bringing people together and make them work as a team cannot assure effective functioning. They had to undergo a number of training to develop mutual understanding or else problems like lack of support, misguidance, distrust and inadequate participation may occur.
Throughout the construction industry, technology plays a role to help ease the completion of a project to all of the parties involved. The amount of technology application in the industry supports the belief that technology has a positive impact on project productivity. One of the main materials used in the construction industry that surrounds us every day, in which we overlook, is concrete. Concrete is an art form, in which it takes time and talent in order for it to be used efficiently, to produce its high strength and longevity. However, the downfall of this material is that it is extremely costly and nearly impossible to form it to an aesthetically pleasing surface. In spite of this, what if I told you that there is hope? That the dream of a material made of concrete, producing the same qualities, can be formed to any shape, and used anywhere was a reality.
The project manager will responsible in assisting and coordinating the entire process in design from the review of conceptual designs amid development to providing recommendation of any alternative solutions whenever design details would possibly affect the construction feasibility. He will also advise on site use and improvements, selection of materials, building systems and equipment. From this, he will give his recommendations on relative construction feasibility. This includes various constraints such as the availability of materials and labor, estimated time for installation and construction and most importantly the cost for the project.
Procurement is a combination of different methods of purchasing construction objects and includes such variables as source of funding, partner selection method, price basis, responsibility for design, responsibility for management, and amount of subcontracting (Murdoch and Hughes, 2008). Before proceeding with a project, the appropriate procurement option has to be selected by the client that provide an effective organization to minimize all the risk that will be occur during the construction process. There are several procurement approaches that have to be taken in the construction industry such as the traditional method, design and build method, and management method. The selections of an appropriate procurement system to be used in a project are important to guarantee the success of the project. Consideration and analysis in selecting the appropriate procurement have to be made and it will include several main criteria such as cost certainty, time certainty, speed, and flexibility. Nowadays, the perspective of choosing the appropriate procurement is based on the past experience.
...ing low cost but reliable alternatives to expensive technology and building a culture for continuous improvement. Secondly, developing a culture that promotes high level of respect and morale, which eventually leads to a healthy work environment. When the work environment is cordial and friendly, all the different stakeholders will also interact with each other and work in a way that is best for the construction industry. Finally, most of the project delivery process should be transformed into Integrated Project Delivery processes so that they involve all the different stakeholders at vital phases of the project. This can form a solid foundation for a project and the chances of errors will be almost minimal or none.
The career I have chosen for this project is an Architect. A building architect to be more specific. The career has many characteristics of work that I wish to pursue as I grow up. The main idea is thinking of new, and visually nice designs to grab your clients attention for them to buy your design. It also is a job were mathematics and now computer training is needed. The nature of work of an Architect is basically the design of building and other structures. The design of the building must not only be creative and what the client wants, but there are many different regulations and rules to follow to make the building affordable, safe, and proper size for it to fit in its specifically picked out plantation. First the Architect and the client must discuss the basic idea of the project, giving him basic ideas like size, shape, number of rooms and budget. The Architect will then make blue prints or drawing of his ideas, then present them to the client or clients who he is working for, to see if they like his idea and if they have any comments or suggestions that they would like to get met. If the clients like that idea of the building, the Architect must then draw final construction plans which show the building’s general appearance and details for it’s construction. Such details as the air-conditioning , ventilation and electrical systems to name a few. Architects now sometimes turn to computer-aided design and drafting or (CADD) only a few Architects will plan all their wo...
In the Integrated design approach, each of the design objective is significantly important in any project, yet a truly successful one is where project goals are identified early on and held in proper balance during the design process; and where their interrelationships and interdependencies with all building systems are understood, evaluated, appropriately applied, and coordinated concurrently from the planning and programming phase. A high-performance building cannot be achieved unless the integrated design approach is employed.
Mostafa’s role in his company requires a diverse set of skills. His team is involved with scheduling the project to meet specific deadlines, determining labor requirements and obtaining all necessary permits and licenses. Technical skills involve using the program Microsoft Project, which he told me required 2 weeks of training to understand. Microsoft Project is used to evaluate construction methods, determine cost-effectiveness, and develop and implement quality control programs. This program is vital to monitor and manage risks. Managing risks depends on priorities set by the company. His company usually depends on the strategy of minimizing the risks by lowering the effect of the consequences, which include late delivery penalties to the vendor. The nature of his work heavily depends on this
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. I have completed basic coursework in most areas of engineering, learning statics, thermodynamics, basic programming, and circuit design. This has provided a strong foundation to continue graduate study in other engineering disciplines. I

As an architect it is important to understand that creating a building is not only a reflection on the skills we have on creating a building but the understanding of an individual and the work of creating a house that is unique to that person or their family. Thus, is needed the quality of good communication skills. Not only do architects work with other contractors and construction workers but they work with individuals, they should have a close relationship to the client so that the client’s needs are
Ever since I was young, I have always enjoyed making and building projects more than any other pastime. There are no limits to what can be built and there are many tools available to complete. If the tool is not in a personal inventory, there 's always someone around from whom the tool can be borrowed. Building teaches how something works and operates. After building a project, the builder then knows what every part of that system of parts does. Engineering is my dream job; it gives the opportunity to design new components and to see creativity in an operating system. Engineers are the ones who design many of the modern convenience of today 's society. Thus, in the field of engineering, there is no limit for a top job and even the best inventions in the world could use improvements in their designs.
