Although Henry appears to rile up his peers for war, his true motive is to convey the urgency of his call to arms against the British oppressors; therefore, asserting that people must act upon injustices they face before it is too late. Patrick Henry utilizes a poignant metaphor to emphasize the scarcity of true freedom within the colonies, and if the colonies fail to act promptly, they will never posses genuine sovereignty. When mentioning how Boston has already started campaigning, Henry states: “Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston!” (Henry n. pag.).
